One month left to apply! With Ondřej Rokoš, we are looking for a postdoc to work with us on the computationally-driven design of pneumatically actuated microstructures with applications in active mechanical metamaterials (with sensing capabilities) and soft robotics. To achieve this goal, the project aims to develop new topology optimization techniques combining pressure actuation, internal contact, and multi-stability.

I have a 2D model that worked fine until a couple of
days ago where I tried changing the mesh a bit. Now when I try to run it aborts
calculation and gives some of the following errors:


- There are 14 unconnected regions in the model.

Hello everybody.


I am doing my diploma project and I have to model an off-shore oil-rig in Abaqus. It's a metallic truss-type system. I've defined all of the elements composing the structure as wire elements and the decks as solids. Does anybody know how to define the contact between the decks and the supporting beams? The decks are supposed to be bolted to the beams.

Simulation of composite delamination caused by impact

Hi All,

While using LS-DYNA to simulate the impact damage of composites, I have a question about modeling.

I plan to create the model by solid element. Each ply has one element in the thickness direction. The contact between plies is *contact_automatic_surface_to_surface_tiebreak. My question is how to create separate ply models while using this contact. It is clear that common nodes are not allowed. So there might be two possibilities.

Frequency analysis with Contact constraint



I am trying to analysis a model in ABAQUS with a plate bolted to the Bracket top surface at 4 ends. I have to define contact between them (and also bolted at 4 ends) to get the Modal frequency. But When I searched for it, I got the answer that contact doesn't work with Modal analysis as contact is a nonliner problem and Modal Analysis only solves linear problem.

How to update solution-dependat variable (SVARS) during iterations

Hello everyone,

 I am implementing a uel user subroutine in ABAQUS. This uel is for modeling contact in X-FEM framework. Thus, it's a nonlinear problem and I need to store some solution dependent variables during each iteration. I know I can store SDVs in SVARS. But this vector will update at the end of each step, and not during iterations. Anybody knows about this problem?

 I really appreciate if anybody can help me with this.



use of ABAQUS Explicit - importance of *bulk viscosity

Hello there!

 I am fairly new to ABAQUS but I have been trying to model several experimental set-ups on cold-formed steel beams. I intend to obtain both the elastic buckling critical modes (*buckle analysis), as well as the load parameter corresponding to failure, which i first modelled through a NLGEOM analysis (*STEP, NLGEOM, INC=xxx/*STATIC, RIKS).
