PhD Positions in Experimental & Computational Mechanics – Georgia Tech AE

Submitted by christos_edward on

The Daedalus Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering) is recruiting PhD students with both experimental and computational backgrounds to start in Summer 2026 or Fall 2026.

Our group works at the intersection of fracture mechanics, materials science, and AI, with a focus on:

  • Green and recycled structures for sustainable infrastructure
  • Instrument development / mechanics experimentation
  • Computational modeling of failure in complex materials

We welcome applicants with interests in experimental mechanics, instrumentation development, computational mechanics, or machine learning for materials and structures.

Keywords: mechanics, physics, fracture, materials engineering, computational mechanics, machine learning, instrument development, sustainability

How to apply

Prospective students should apply to the Georgia Tech Aerospace Engineering PhD program via the official portal:

In addition, to help us identify strong matches, please email Prof. Christos E. Athanasiou at c.e.athanasiou [at] gmail.com with:

  • A CV
  • A one-page cover letter describing your future research interests and how they align with the Daedalus Lab
  • A slide deck (3–10 slides) summarizing your past research or project experience
