NNIN/C Computational Cluster at U-M open to researchers

Submitted by Parameshwaran … on

The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network’s computational project (NNIN/C) is a multi-university initiative, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of NNIN, to establish a user accessible national computing resource for nanotechnology. This network is open to the academic and industrial research community and provides hardware resources and simulation tools dedicated to nanoscience
research.

Elasticity of rubber-like materials

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

In the notes on the general theory of finite deformation, we have left the free energy function unspecified. The notes here describe free energy function commonly used to describe the elasticity of rubber-like materials.  These notes are part of a course on advanced elasticity

Vicky Nguyen and Kaushik Dayal are Recipients of the Inaugural Eshleby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It gives me great pleasure to announce the outcome of the inaugural competition for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty. This award, created in 2012, will be annually given to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. The selection committee consisted of: K. Ravi-chandar (UT Austin), Huajian Gao (Brown University), Kaushik Bhattacharya (Caltech), Roger Fosdick (Minnesota University), and Yonggang Huang (Northwestern University).

Faculty Opening: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Experimental Biomechanics, Mechanobiology and Biophysics

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites
applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty position, at all levels, beginning Fall 2013 or later.
Successful candidates are expected to establish an internationally recognized
dynamic research program in the area of experimental biomechanics and
mechanobiology. Special preference would be given to those pursuing cellular
level and/or single molecule studies of living systems with emphasis on
healthcare applications. Exceptionally strong senior candidates will be

characteristic Length

Submitted by m0435117 on

Hi

is there a way to get the characteristic length of one element? I wanna calculate xult (when the element is cracked, fracutred..).

I use the concrete damage plasticity model and after reaching the tensile strength i assume a linear softening with fracture energy.

Input are:

   Young´s modulus

   max. tensile strength

   fracture energy

Outpu:

when do i reach xult or what is the plastic strain equivalent

Cam Follower Prototype- GIF File

Submitted by Jigar Y. Patel on
This is my cam follower prototype for clean energy cheaper than coal. Cam is used to open and close valve of internal combustion engine. I am going to show you another use. In my cam follower system,

1. Follower is off set.

2. Force is applied from follower to cam. Since the follower is off set this force help cam to rotate.

3. We use energy(Input energy) to move follower and get energy(output energy) on cam.
