Fracture mechanics is one of the key research topics in our field (of mechanics) and has a rather rich history of innovation and applications. From earth-quakes to air-planes---the mechanics underpinning the phenomenon of materials falling apart has been essential in the development of technology. Griffith’s work on fracture was published about a 100 years ago and is often widely regarded as the start of modern fracture mechanics. The Century Fracture Mechanics Summit (CFMS), was held in Singapore on Apr.
In 2019, Elsevier CAGD will be publishing a special issue on ``Generalized Barycentric Coordinates,'' edited by Michael S. Floater (University of Oslo), Kai Hormann (University of Lugano), and myself.

Advanced energy materials hold one of the keys to fundamental advances in the conversion, storage, and harvesting of energy for a broad range of consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, and defense applications. The successful development and deployment of these materials relies critically on a fundamental understanding of strongly coupled multiphysics phenomena. Mechanics of energy materials has emerged as a rapidly growing area of research that has significant technological implications in improving the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy infrastructure.
Additive manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a powerful technique for manufacturing of various types of biomaterials and implants. Using AM, it is now possible to fabricate biomaterials with arbitrarily complex shapes at different scales. The inventory of biomaterials that can be used in this way continues to increase, extending the possible range of products and applications.
