PhD (4 years) on finite element modelling of textile materials and processes

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

We are looking for a PhD student for a research project on textile modelling. In this project, the main purpose is to develop a multi-scale textile modelling framework that allows accurate simulation of textile manufacturing processes such as yarn unwinding from a bobbin, weft insertion during weaving, stitching and tufting. This framework is implemented using finite element modelling as well as virtual fibre modelling. Key here are the dynamics of these systems as most textile production happens at high speeds.

ABAQUS - Viscous Pressure - Beam elements

Submitted by Francesca Danielli on

Hi!

I am trying to apply a viscous pressure (VP) load to beam elements (B31) but I obtained thie error message: "INVALID LOAD TYPE ON ELEMENT * INSTANCE *. LOAD TYPE VP IS NOT VALID FOR ELEMENT TYPE B31"

Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you!

VUMAT viscoelasticity (Maxwell model)

Submitted by surot on

Dear all,

I would like to ask you for advice. I am about to simulate a pull-through test (see attached picture) of a cladding panel made of a material with highly viscoelastic behaviour. I have parameters for Maxwell model (Prony series) obtained from test. I expect large deformation and probably cone failure (or tearing of the cladding panel). Therefore I would like to use Abaqus/Explicit. The problem is that I cannot use *visco step together with Explicit. Is there any way to solve it?

Input file for the CPFE VUMAT in Nonlinear finite elements for continua and structure

Submitted by rctron on

I am learning crystal plasticity and its implementation as VUMAT subroutine from the book Nonlinear finite elements for continua and structure. I am aiming to gain more insight about the implementation by studying the poly-slip, rate-dependent, single crystal plasticity subroutine provided in the solution manual.

However, I couldn't reproduce the example in the book successfully, as I believe I have made errors in defining the material properties in the Abaqus input file. So, can someone please provide the input file for the associated VUMAT subroutine?

PhD/postdoc vacancy (4 years) on development of topology optimization algorithms for functionally graded materials

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing or WAAM techniques are attracting interest from the manufacturing industry because of their potential to produce large metal components with low cost and short production lead time. This process exists alongside other high deposition rate metal AM technologies such as powder and wire based DED. While these use either laser or an electron beam as energy source to melt a metal powder or wire, WAAM technologies melt metal wire using an electric arc.

Abaqus Explicit: difference in TEMP, STRESS and PEEQ computation between adiabatic and coupled

Submitted by Olivier Pantalé on

Hi,

I have the two following INP files for Abaqus where the only difference is that in one case I'm using a CAX4R element on the other case, I'm using a CAX4RT element. Solver has been changed from one case to the other one.
This is the only difference between both cases.

Simulation time is small, so that conduction is negligible.

BUT: results in terms of Strains, Stresses and Temperatures differs.
T = 164.1°C for CX4R
T = 323.9°C for CAX4RT

The difference is Huge, what's Wrong ?
