Intro
We are looking for extremely high-energy, self-motivated Ph.D. candidates with exceptional problem-solving, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills who are seeking challenges to solve real technical problems. The Intern will be responsible for developing testing and simulation methods to assess lifespan of essential components in oilfield equipment. You will need to work seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team and present project progress to various internal and external clients.
Responsibilities:
The candidate may work on any of the following:
- Design testing apparatus and develop test plans for essential oilfield components exposed to shock and vibration-related fatigue.
- Develop FEA-based methods to simulate and assess fatigue life of essential components.
- Deliver results per defined key project milestones along with team members and collaborators.
- Present project progress updates to stakeholders and management.
- Develop domain expertise and share knowledge with peers and the engineering community.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. candidacy in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Engineering Mechanics with a specialty in solid mechanics
- In-depth understanding of continuum mechanics, elasticity, plasticity, fracture mechanics, dynamic systems, mechanical vibrations, finite element methods, probabilistic and statistical methods, and materials engineering.
- Extensive experience in modeling of dynamic systems, constitutive modeling of metallic and non-metallic materials, modeling of elastomers, and simulation of large-scale structures subjected to static or dynamic loads are desired.
- Solid knowledge of ABAQUS is essential. Experience in developing user subroutines and Python scripts for ABAQUS is a plus.
- Experience in scientific coding with FORTRAN, C or C++
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Autonomous and creative approach towards challenging problems
