Problem with merging mesh in Abaqus

Submitted by manojbrutal.v@… on

Hi I tried to mesh these two plates with two cases having different geometries. I am trying to achieve something similar in complex geometry in abaqus. But I think the problem is with shapes or if it is something else, please help me with this. I tried in solid elements too it did not work either. I have attached image where you can see two cases

Cauchy stress and 2nd Piolla Kirchoff stress

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Cauchy stress values (i.e. the Cauchy stress tensor) changes when the body is subjected to only a rigid body rotation

Whereas, a second Piolla Kirchoff stress values DOES NOT change when the body is subjected to rigid body motion.

Now, in an simulation software the engineer rarely observes the 2nd Piolla Kirchoff stress values (most of the softwares do not even have this output). The engineer is  normally interested is the Cauchy stresss.

ABAQUS pore metal compression

Submitted by IMOTEC on

Hi,

I am trying to model a compression test for aluminium. In my model I have a 2D rigid plate and a 2D deformable part. And also my part have some space in itself. I used dynamic explicit step with 0.01 time period. It also run somewhere. But then exited with an error. It has some convergence diffuculties. I also tried to adaptive mesh but it gave me same error early. Also I can see the result of solved part and I looked reaction force. I saw too much oscilation for force-time graph. Can anyone help me to solve this problem. I also attached the inp file of model.

Please suggest self study book for continuum plasticity theory

Hello, I am new to theory of plasicity and need to learn it by myself. Please suggest a good book for self study for continuum plasticity theory. I am specially interested in metal plasticity theories, in analytical and numerical aspects.

Deformation Gradient from a deformed mesh - 4 node solid elements

Hello,

I have a 2D mesh that has 4 node solid elements. I am aware that to determine the components of deformation gradient tensor F, I will require displacement functions, u(x,y) and v(x,y) in a current configuration. Taking a partial derivative with respect to x and y respectively yields components of def. gradient tensor F.

Confusing results from ABAQUS/Expilicit simulation of tensile test

Submitted by tuanpham on

Dear everybody,

I am newbie on ABAQUS simulation. I try to silumate a basic problem: tensile test an unit square Aluminum sheet by Shell S4R element. I used displacement condition where one edge is fixed and the opposite one is move up 10% of the edge length within 1s. For more detailly information, please see Fig. 1.

1073741819 error code in ABAQUS

Submitted by ashkan khalili on

Dear all,

I'm using UEL in ABAQUS. The UEL works perfectly as far as I have 256 time increments (each 1e-6 sec). When I'm trying to increase the time increments (let's say 512 with the same 1e-6 sec per increment) Abaqus gives me error code 1073741819.

I'm running Abaqus 6.14.2 with Intel Fortran Composer XE 2013 on a Windows 7. CPUs are 3rd generation.

I would appreciate if you could help me to figure it out.

Best Regards,
