Lattice modelling of the Impact of surface roughness on the debonding mechanism in concrete repairs
Dear all,
Dear all,
Dear all,
Full text of our paper describing a model for phase change materials in concrete used to mitigate thermally induced cracking is now available at: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/308433229_Use_of_phase_change_…

Two mathematicians prove that under certain extreme conditions, the Navier-Stokes equations output nonsense.

A PhD studentship is available at the University of Southampton as part of a collaboration with MatchID NV. It consists at exploring new heterogeneous test configurations for composites and elastomers, based on Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and the Virtual Fields Method (VFM). The overarching goal is to propose new standard tests relying on heterogeneous states of strain and stress for cheaper and more robust material testing.
I’m very happy to inform you, that among others, Markus Stricker and me are Symposium-Organizers of the Materials Science and Engineering Congress 2018 (MSE) and would like to invite you to submit your abstract to the symposiums:
MD05: Plasticity Across the Scales - From Microstructure Changes to Bulk Mechanical Behavior
Detailed information about the symposium is available at:
The catastrophic consequences observed after extreme events (flooding, earthquakes, vehicle impact, explosions, and fire) in transport and energy networks, as well as commercial and residential buildings, have significantly changed the public perception of risk regarding structures and infrastructure. Materials and structures are pushed to the limit in these conditions and given the fact that it is not always possible to provide an elastic response damage development must be considered and robustness becomes a precious characteristic.
Aging infrastructures represent a current engineering challenge. Huge budgets are necessary to keep their functionality and the lack of a proper and timely maintenance entails an increasing deterioration and therefore higher repair costs. Therefore, assessing the reliability of infrastructures becomes mandatory, with particular attention to the ones still in service even when their life limit has exceeded.
This paper aims to propose a new, fast and low cost method of condition rating for reinforced concrete bridges. This is based on visual inspection and non-destructive testing.
The aim of this tutorial is to develop a step-by-step instructions for simulation of a welding process with the FEA-program LS-PrePost. The tutorial contain a simulation of a single-pass gas metal arc welding, but we can use the same method to simulate multi-pass welding.
Dear Colleagues,
A funded PhD position is available immediately to work on mechanics modeling for 3D printed biomaterials. The PhD student is expected to conduct continuum modeling and finite element simulation (Abaqus) informed from meso-/micro-scale simulation results and experimental data.
