Variables definition in Abaqus
Hi,
I am working on a 3D contact problem where a spherical part is pressed against another spherical surface. I was wondering what variables may be interesting to study for this problem. I decided to look at the contact area CAREA, the contact pressure CPRESS and the stress S but I am not able to find how Abaqus defines and calculates these variables, does anyone know?
Thanks
energy balance of surface-based cohesive of composite under impact in Absqus 6-10
Hi there! I am really new to Abaqus and I need to model a composite
laminated crash cone under impact to a flat solid wall (analytical
surface is used). I modelled a cone with a layers of conventional shell
elements with hashin failure criteria and surface-based cohesive
behaviour as interaction between layers representing the interface of
composite laminates. The model runs successfully but once I checked the
energy balance, the damage dissipation energy from the cohesive, it
turned out to be NEGATIVE (I think this is wrong).

viscoplastic analysis of lap shear solder joint
Hi all,
I am trying to model a solder joint in double lap shear. I am using the Modified Anand's Model. But for some reasons the analysis is not completing and does not gives any errors as well. Since I am new to abaqus, I am not able to solve this. Here is my input file:

Journal Club Theme of July 2011: Three Dimensional Biologically Inspired Microvascular Systems
From venation of leaves to the blood and lymph vessels and tracheae of insects, 3D filamentous branching networks are a common pattern in all higher organisms. These busy “highways” supply the tissue with nutrition and oxygen, expel waste and heat, as well as conduct immune reactions and other signal pathways. These microvascular networks are also essential for effective response of external stimuli in some sensitive plants, such as Venus flytrap and Mimosa pudica.

ABAQUS load/surface coupling. User element loads – VUEL and VDLOAD
Hi,
I am attempting to couple a moving multi-body load to a surface using ABAQUS/explicit, i.e. the loading varies depending on the surface displacement at the previous time step.
I realise that VDLOAD cannot access values such as element displacement directly but can access variables using tools such as utility subroutines e.g. UEXTERNALDB. The only problem is that such utility routines only seem to work for ABAQUS implicit.
Similarly vgetvrm can be used to output stress values but not displacement.
Stress-strain hysteresis model
Hi all,
Is it possible to model stress-strain hysteresis loops (with isotropic or/and kinematic hardening) without using rate quations? For the case of monotonic loading, bilinear or trilinear hardening models can be easily written. But in the case of cyclic loading can the Bauschinger effect be incorporated in a simply manner?
