Postdoc Position in Multiscale Mechanics - Northwestern University

Submitted by tf325 on

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the Micro and Nano Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University. The successful candidate will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary research group and will be involved in projects addressing multiscale mechanics of hierarchical carbon-based materials as part of a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI). In our research group, we believe in a combined experimental-computational approach; therefore, the candidate will be working in close collaboration with theoretical modelers to facilitate the understanding of experimental findings.

question

hi....I have one question...it is: what is the minimum weight of a water droplet pending on the roof that it will fall down....my question is this ...shall we use both ΔP and surface tension for the solution??? plz guid me....thanks

Abaqus,How to define the direction of beam element by specifying an additional node?

Submitted by speedeagle on

When I analyze a quiet complex spatial structure, error information warn that: the direction of the beam element is
not correct.

From abaqus document 26.3.4 I know we can
nominate the direction of beam element by adding additional node.It is clear
that this node should be off the axis of the element, any additional constrians?

May I define a random node in the space
which is far far away from my structure, then I add this node as unique
additional node?

Layered Shell Displacements

Submitted by osmias on

Hi,

I am confused regarding displacements calculated through layered shell model in Ansys using Shell 181.

The model is composed of 5 layered sections of different materials (with thicknesses) assigned to an area. The whole laminate is cooled from a reference (zero-strain) (150 C) temperature to a uniform temperature (-40 C).

I need to calculate the difference of displacements between two nodes in the meshed area, for a specific location in layer no. 3. The issue is that I only have nodes in one plane and the results (i think) are interpolated along the thickness. My question is that, is there any method to find displacements at a specific layer in the shell model [as we can find all other results (stress, strains etc.) for different layers]

meshing question in ansys

Submitted by DavidMartin on

greetings :)

i've got this beam, 1x0.24x0.15 (x,y,z) respectively .!

i wanna mesh it, to obtain the following:
first element's length in x-direction is: 0.02
last element's length in y-direction is: 0.045
rest elements (17 middle elements) are: 0.055

y and z direction is according to the global manual size

can anyone help :), thanks alot
