Faculty Research in Solid Mechanics, review starts on 01/07/2008
Dear Fellow Mechanicians:
If you know somebody (including yourself) are looking for faculty jobs, please encourage them to apply to Utah State University. We are filling two tenure-track positions in the broad sense of solid mechanics or thermal science. At least one position for solid mechanics. For details of the job descriptions, please refer to my previous post. You need to apply through the online system at jobs.usu.edu. We will start reviewing the applicants on January 7th, 2008.
Best regards,
Ph.D. studentship in smart material at University of Glasgow, UK
A three-year
PhD studentship is available within the Glasgow Research Partnership in
Engineering (GRPE) as part of the Joint Research Institute in Mechanics of
Materials, Structures and Bioengineering at the University of Glasgow.
The
specific goals of the PhD will be to manufacture MREs and determine the
influence of manufacture conditions on the micro-structure and magnetic-sensitivity
of the magnetorheological elastomers (smart material).
Recruiting PhD students for Cell Mechanics Lab at Rensselaer
Full support is available for 2 PhD students in cellular mechanics group in Biomedical Engineering Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The applicants should have mechanics, materials or soft matter physics background, with some experimental experience at micro-scales. Experience with any of the following is considered a
plus: computational mechanics, cell/tissue culture, microscopy, image analysis, photonics.
2 PhD OPENINGS IN COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS IN BARCELONA
Two four-year doctoral fellowships at the LaCàN Research group (http://www-lacan.upc.es/), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC, Barcelona, Spain).
These two fellowships, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education ("beca FPI"), coverfull tuition, a monthly stipend and provide funds for short international research stays. The starting date is expected in the Summer-Fall 2008.
Looking for some post-doc research or teaching job opportunities in the United States
hi all,
The Department of Engineering Mechanics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, invites applications for tenure-track position
POSITION:
The Department of Engineering Mechanics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level for candidates with research experience or strong interest in cell/tissue biomechanics (mammalian or plant), nanodevices, bioMEMS/NEMS, nanomechanics/materials/manufacturing/fluidics, biomaterials, and bionanomechanics. Exceptional candidates could be considered for a higher rank.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Postdoctoral position in virtual surgery (RPI)
Brief description: The Advanced Computational Research Laboratory, affiliated
with the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA invites applications for a postdoctoral
position to work on a project funded by the National Institute of Biomedical
Imaging and Bioengineering of the NIH on developing real time surgical
simulation technology. The ideal candidate will develop the

Job wikis
Those of you who are looking for academic jobs and have not heard back from the places that you applied may find the following wiki useful.

The idea is to let people know whether a position has been filled or not. You can add the positions you have applied to, whether you have been called for an interview, whether references have been requested, or whether you have got a rejection letter.
Seeking a post doc position about multi-body dynamics
I am a PhD candidate in the department of engineering mechanics, Tsinghua University, China.
My major is multi-body dynamics. I will graduate at July, 2008.
The topic of my dissertation is the study of passive dynamic walking, including simulation an experiments.
I chose this topic depend on my interests. I have derived the dynamic equations and coded in matlab and FORTRAN languages.
I have made some simulations and experiments. The animations and videos can be found in my webpages.
