Hi everybody

I want to simulate rolling of sheet metals . I want to study the velocity of sheet metal under the deformation when workpiece is under the rollers.  but velocity conours in rolling direction (V1) is very very discrete. however in rolling of billet that the thickness of workpiece is very larger than sheet metal the velocity contours are very good and continual.

what is the problem???

please help me

MultiScale Analysis Software or Open Source code for CNT and Nanocomposite

Submitted by mehdi_eft on

Hi all

I am a beginner on MultiScale Analysis.

I am studying on "MultiScale Analysis of Carbon Nanotubes and nanocomposites".

is there any commercial software or open source program for multiscale modelling of CNT and nanocomposites??

MLPG mixed collocation essential BC

I am currently implementing some meshfree methods in Matlab. I have already implemented the EFG method. Now I'm trying to implement the MLPG mixed collocation method, and here I run into a problem.

ABAQUS Cylindrical Boundary Conditions

Submitted by rakesh.srivastav on

Dear all,

I am trying to learn ABAQUS using this problem (what I thought would be simple enough):

Intial Geometric Configuration: A Disc (thin) with a finite radius (1 unit) and a wedge (5 degree pie) cut off. So it is basically a disc with material present only from angles 0 to 355 degrees and the material from 355-360 degrees is removed.

Cylindrical Boundary Conditions: Displacements degrees of freedom are UR(r,phi) in the radial direction and Uphi(r,phi) in the tangential direction

   1) Uphi(r,0) = 0

implicit and explicit for dynamic analysis

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Can anyone please explain the difference between implicit and explicit method with regard to dynamic analysis?

I mean the procedurres to determine the response where in the equations of mottion are uncoupled or non linear dyn amic analysis is to be carried out?

Central difference is an explicit and neumann methos is an implicit method.

It was beautifully explained by Prof.Louis for sttaic non linear analysis in an earlier post and touched by Peymann too for dynamic analysis.A detailed explanation will eb very useful.

Please help

Reducing the number of degrees of freedom

Submitted by kajalschopra on

I have been reading the book by Prof Anil K Chopra on Structural Dynamics. You might all be aware that Prof Chopra is from University of California Berkeley.

I have been reading the chapter 14, wherein the author talk of reducing the dynamic degrees of freedom using Rayleigh Ritz method. My question is, in commercial FE software , is the reduction of dynamic degrees of freedom practised?

If yes, what are the methods used? IS Rayl;eigh Ritz approiach used?

Material thermal conductivity in Abaqus

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate the thermal cycling of a cylinder between 0-100
degC, however the model I am trying to replicate does not have a thermal
conductivity assigned. I'm now under the impression that there is no
conductivity as the the material is set at a temperature in the cycle,
does anyone know how to do this?

Many thanks!

JAcobian interpretation

Submitted by kajalschopra on

 I was just reading about volumetric locking in Dhondt's book (for Thermomechanical analysis) and came across this (funny) question;

Now, we say the physical interpreation about Jacobian is change in volume, now if a material is incompressible Jacobian = 1, now this incompressibility is a material property, right?

Where is a material parameter attached to Jacobian expression of finite elements (1-d,2-d or 3d finite element)?

Hourglassing

Submitted by kajalschopra on

This is a very basic question but I will be happy if someone can help me here.I had been reading about Hourglassing as I understand (I think I am wrong), hourglassing is that when you have the displacements (or the field variable)at integration points '0'.If this occurs it would result in 0 displacements at nodes as well (because displaceemnts from interpoaltion pioints are extrapolated at nodes) which is incorrect. Can anyone please explain in simplest manner about hourglassing?I shall be very grateful.

Abaqus: Modelling of Reinforced Concrete Slab

Submitted by kaizen on

Dear all,

Iam modelling a simply supported RC slab subjected to uniformly distributed loading at the top surface of the slab using Abaqus. I've chosen element type of C3D8R to model concrete slab and truss elements for steel bars reinforcement which are embedded into the concrete slab.

After running the model, I found that the load against central deflection curve at linear region, i.e from zero load to yield load is very much stiffer compare to the experimental test result. My question is that how to lower down this elastic curve so that it would closely match to the experimental test result.

Please let me know and thank you.
