composite modelling

Submitted by nepal1 on

Hello all,

I am doing my masters thesis on composites. Its material with cnt yarn embedded in steel.I modeled cnt yarn as solid and matrix as soilid and glued them together.the values of youngs modulus for yarn is lower than that of the matrix.I obtained some results on stresses bt the maximum stress is seen along the tip tranverse to the ysrn axis?I hope the stress should be around the yarn.

I am using ansys 13 for the analysis.Could you please help me in soving this problem???

An introduction to metamaterials and waves in composites

Submitted by Biswajit Banerjee on

My book on metamaterials, "An introduction to metamaterials and waves in composites" has been published on June 16, 2011 by CRC Press (Taylor and Francis).

The book is meant for students, researchers, engineers, and educators who want to get a basic grounding on the theory that is the basis of recent excitement about negative materials, cloaking, transformation optics/acoustics and other wave phenomena in composites.

[ANSYS] Composites. Problems using shell181 at postproc and tsai-hill criterion

Submitted by ferraz75 on

Hi all,

I've modeled a composite sandwitch with ANSYS with a pressure. The element chosen was SHELL181.

I want to know the Stresses in the x, y and xy directions; the displacements and the deformations only in a few points so as to compare with the Navier and Rayleigh-Ritz solutions made following Reddy's book.

1.-The first problem is that I don't know how to ask ANSYS to list the displacements and deformations.

2.-The second one is that I know how to ask ANSYS to list all the elements in a layer,

Why penetrable model can be assumed in random?

Submitted by victorye on

There is a lot of homogenization theories based on penetrable model or some other name like 'overlapping', 'randomly imbedded model' to analyze random microstructure. In reality, the fibers or inclusions can not be penetrated into each other, so why they use this assumption anyway?

 Thanks for your opinion.

Who can apply me code of FLASH ?

Submitted by applexie on

Recently I have some reseach on z-pinned composite. I hope use finite element method to analyse the unit cell . I found a FE code called FLASH mentioned in many papers. I think the code will be helpful to my work. But I can not got the code form my resource. So,I ask help in the forum. Two papers about the code are given in below. I am very expect for your help!!!

3D Composite model in ABAQUS

Submitted by parimal_maity on

Dear Abaqus Users,

I would like to model 3D composite structures using Hashin Damage model in ABAQUS. I have seen in ABAQUS manual that Hashin damage model is applicable only for shell element. I would like know whether I can use 3D element available in ABAQUS. Any help would be higly appreciated.

Progressive Failure Model

Submitted by Hallgeirda on

Hi

Am currently running Ansys analysis using shell181, and Tsai-Wu FC, have some good working first ply failure models

Trying to convert this into a progressive failure model, with no luck so far.

Anyone know something about this, how it could be done?

I suspect by looping, and fortran code, but I do not really have a clue..
