PhD scholarship in Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France

Submitted by Kostas Danas on

One Ph.D. position is now available starting October 2017 on harnessing instabilities in magnetorheological elastomers. The PhD will be pursued in the Solid Mechanics Laboratory of Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France. The potential student will work on the development of new experimental procedures and numerical models for the fabrication and testing of new magnetorheological elastomeric devices that operate in the postbifurcation regime by proper combination of mechanical and magnetic loadings.

Post-doctoral positions at National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

Submitted by Shailendra on

Starting April 2016, we will have openings for two post-doctoral fellow positions in experimental and computational mechanics of advanced polymers. These positions will support a new research program between Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and National University of Singapore (NUS) funded by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The project focuses on synthesizing, characterizing, modeling, and simulating the thermo-mechanical behavior of polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs), e.g. vitrimers.

Yield stress fluid flows

Submitted by Korporaald on

A Virtual Special Issue of the Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics devoted to yield stress fluid flows has just been released. With this first Virtual Special Issue of the journal we inaugurate a practice, which we plan to make regular, of highlighting developments on a particular subject of relevance in order to guide and encourage research in the field.

Paper: On finding cohesive law parameters for foam-metal interfaces

Submitted by Biswajit Banerjee on

A detailed report of our work on trying to find cohesive laws for interfacial fracture is attached.  I will add the experimental data after a shorter version of this report has been published.

The reason for posting this report on iMechanica is so that people who want to replicate the tests or perform similar tests know what is involved.  As we have found out, many details and potential problems faced by an experimentalist are hard to determine from the concise papers that are typically published as journal articles.

Ph.D. Position on Magnetorheological Elastomers at Ecole Polytechnique, France

Submitted by Kostas Danas on

One Ph.D. position is now available starting October 2013 on magnetorheological elastomers in the Solid Mechanics Laboratory of Ecole Polytechnique, France. The potential student will work on the development of new experimental procedures and high fidelity numerical models for the understanding and constitutive description of microstructured magnetorheological solids. Students with strong interest in new coupled problems and strong background in engineering, physics or/and mechanics are encouraged to apply.
