tribology
ICoBT 2011 - Final programme now available
The International Conference on BioTribolgy will take place in London, Imperial College, 18-21 September 2011. To download the full programme or to register, go to http://www.biotribologyconference.com
Opening - Ph.D. students in Materials Engineering
I am currently accepting applications for two Ph.D. students starting in January 2012. The students will join my research group in the Materials Engineering department at McGill University. Students in my research group are trained to be world class researchers in the fields of surface engineering and coatings tribology.

WOM 2011 - 18th International Conference on Wear of Materials, Philadelphia, USA - Call for stand alone posters.
Submissions are now closed for oral presentations to WOM 2011, however, contributions are invited for stand-alone posters. WOM 2011 is to take place in Philadelphia, USA - April 3-7 next year. It will focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of wear and friction of materials at the macro-, micro- and nano-scale. Special emphasis will be placed on wear issues in harsh environments, energy conversion, and debris particle generation and its impact on the environment.
Wear Rate Analysis With Tribology & 3D Metrology
Coefficient of Friction & Wear Testing of Plasma Coating
A major concern for plasma coatings is how wear resistant they will prove to be on the final product. Since
plasma coatings are a popular use for automobile engines, these coatings are tested through strenuous
conditions. If the coating on the engine itself wears off at a fast rate than the life expectancy of that
particular engine or part becomes a problematic concern. With the plasma coating wearing off, the parts
originally being protected will become exposed to melting temperatures, corrosion and other potentially
Green Tribology
Tribology is defined as the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion, which involves friction, wear and lubrication.
The term “tribology” was introduced in the 1960s by Prof. Peter Jost. In the consequent decades, various aspects of interacting surfaces in relative motion have been the focus of tribology, including, for example, the tribology of automotive applications, microelectromechanical systems, magnetic storage devices, adhesive contact, micro/nanotribology, biotribology.
Ph.D position at EPFL-LSMS, Switzerland
Graduate assistantship positions are available in the Computational olid Mechanics Laboratory (http://lsms.epfl.ch/) at the Ecole olytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (http://www.epfl.ch/).
We are interested in highly motivated Ph.D. candidates with an academic background (B.S. and M.S.) in either Mechanical Engineering, Civil ngineering or Computational Materials Science.
