vumat-shear loading problem

Submitted by Kianoosh.Marandi on

Hi everyone

I have written a VUMAT code for Isotropic -Viscoplasticity material using the finite strain theory and matirx "F"

the code works properly for compression and tension test, however , under shear loading it work just properly if I use only one single element to model the specimen.

when I increase the numebr of elements under simple shear loading the model starts to oscillate until similation aborted.

i am doing structural analysis of composite barrel with load sharing steel liner from inside and IM7/PEEK composite sheathing outside. Can anyone guide me how to model composite sheathing material. i am using axisymmeteic model for analysis. loading is pressure from inner surface and temperature gradient across the thickness of cylinder.

                       thanks.

I am trying to model the flow of metal in extrusion through a porthole die in DEFORM 3D .The extruded legs come into contact with each other the process requires manual removal of the contacting surfaces. Is the removal of surfaces possible and how?

double cantilever beam test question

Submitted by dukkipat on

I have a beginner's question on DCB testing of polymers. The fracture strength during Mode 1 loading increases with crack length due to the compliance of the test specimen. In other words it becomes harder to induce fracture as the crack length increases. Is my understanding correct?

Thanks

Venkat

Which free finite element analysis software to use for this problem?

Submitted by Remi on

Hi,

For a personal project I'd like to find a free program that lets me see what happens when I take a beach ball and apply greater and greater weight on it.  I'm specifically interested in the deformation of the ball, and the stresses in the material.

Geometry&FEM connection in Mechanical APDL (ANSYS)

Hello everbody,

I'm mechanical engineer and working as FEA Engineer in GATES. I have
been using ANSYS for 5 years and I want to ask a question about new
version of ANSYS.

I use ANSYS Mechanical 12.1. I connect "geometry" and "setup" to
Mechanical APDL box in "project schematic". Then when I open Mec. APDL, I
can see the cad model (areas, lines, volumes) and FEM (nodes, elements)
but they aren't connected to each other. is there any way to connect
solid model to finite element model?

Best Regards.

Thermal-displacement coupled analysis UMAT

Submitted by Xinyi Liu on

Dear all,

I am doing a sequentially coupled thermal-displacement analysis. an ODB file is used as prefiled to define thermal load and then a UMAT is used.

My question is how to generate DSTRAN with TEMP (coefficient of expansion is known)

My code is the following, but i think it does not work.

DO K1=1,NTENS

DSTRAN(K1)=(TEMP-LASTEMP)*0.00108

END DO

LASTEMP is temperature of last step.

0.00108 is coefficient of thermal expansion

Hi

I have a question regarding calculating the B-matrix which is used to create the bimaterial H-matrix in the article: "Singularities, Interfaces and Cracks in Dissimilar Anisotropic Media" by Zhigang Suo, 1989.
