Race-car Airfoil Design

Submitted by W. Chris Schleicher on

Hello!

I'm an undergraduate mechanical engineering student and I an working on a team that is building a Mini Indy Race-car for the Formula SAE competition. I've been doing research on airfoil designs that we could potentially use for our car. The problem is, due to my lack of knowledge on airfoils, I'm not so sure how I should go about the design. I've looked at NACA airfoils and the different variations they have, but I don't know which series would be a good starting point.

unit cell model

Submitted by ABAqirl on

Hello Everybody,

I have some problem, i use 3D unit cell model for the calculation of stress-strain curve of the soft plastic matrix with rigid inclusion. after calculation i take the reaction force, devived it into cross -section of ma specimen=this is my stress, and strain i obtain by deviding the displacement into he initial length of the specimen. nevwrtheless i think it is necessary to use some homogenization scheme to obtain the stress-strain response of the material. Could you please help me what should i do?

Best regards

Need help in resolving an ABAQUS error about degrees of freedom of a temp-disp process

ABAQUS - DEGREE OF FREEDOM 11 AND AT LEAST ONE OF DEGREES OF FREEDOM 1 THRU 6 MUST BE ACTIVE IN THE MODEL FOR *COUPLED TEMP-DISP. CHECK THE PROCEDURE AND ELEMENT TYPES USED IN THIS MODEL.

Hi,

I’m trying to learn ABAQUS to simulate temperature-displacement problems. So, I’ve started on a simple example: two plates in contact, the 2nd presses and moves on the 1st plate (which is fixed).Could anyone tell me why the program gives me this error:

which software for impact/destructive simulation?

Hi,

I am evaluating a couple of software packages for impact and destructive testing simulation.

What are the strength and weakness of the following packages in terms of explicit solver capability for impact/destructive?

NX Nastran non-linear (with explicit solver)

NEi Nastran explicit

ANSYS explicit solver (new in ANSYS 12)

Thanks!

Meshing a block with spherical void inside in Ansys

I have a squre block and inside it there is an sphere. I want to mesh
the whole assembly. I can mesh the sphere but when i try to mesh the
squre block with the spherical hole it cant mesh and says "it cant
select the source and target face". I also tried to devide it into 8
parts. That helped me to mesh the sphere but i cant mesh the squre with
spherical hole with that too. So please anyone can help me out.

Monte Carlo Simulation

Submitted by George Papazaf… on

Hello everyone,

I am new to probabilistic assessment methods of structures of various kinds, and I have encountered a paper which includes results of "Monte Carlo Simulation" and also fragility curves. Could someone please recommend to me some books, papers, or even links and sites from where I can learn more about this probabilistic method and for the derivation of fragility curves? My email is gpapazafeiropoulos [at] yahoo.gr (gpapazafeiropoulos[at]yahoo[dot]gr).

Hi,

I'm a fresher in abaqus. Now I'm trying to simulate the damage of brittle kind of materials, like concrete with abaqus on mesoscale. But there are some problems now...
