Modellilng Deep and shallow foundations in Abaqus

Submitted by pedromvf on

Dear All,

I decided to put this post since I am trying to model piles on granular materials with Abaqus and I am having LOADS of problems, some of them due to my lack of understanding in the subject and others becasue there is not enough information around. Some of my problems are:

1- convergence problems: I am using Mohr coulomb for the soil and elasticity for the pile. If the difference between Young's modulus for both materials is to big it does not converge on Abaqus Static. If I do not put a bit of cohesion in my soil it also does not converge.

Testing standard impact test

Submitted by Anna Dolgran on

Dear imechanicans,

I am starting to do charpy test on a fiber composite and I am wondering about the testing standards. (because I dont wont to choose a wrong geometrie).

The problem is: the given sample is a hollow tube with a given wall thickness.

Do you have any ideas on which testing standrads my analysis should be based on?

Or what should I pay attention? (because it is not a standard sample)?

THANKS

MPI errors on a linux cluster (ABAQUS/Explicit)

Submitted by Martin Madaj on

Hello everybody,

i try to perform a 2D orthogonal cutting simulation using the Johnson-Cook damage model in ABAQUS/Explicit. When simulated on my desktop PC (AMD Phenom quad core processor, Windows Vista 64bit), the simulation runs successfully. But if  I try to run the simulation on a linux cluster, it ends with error messages related to HP-MPI. Moreover, if I run a 3D drilling simulation on the cluster, it runs successfully with no errors.

I use ABAQUS 6.7.5, CPE4R elements.

Example of error messages from *.log file:

Laser Deposition

I have one layer of deposit with 10 elements. After the
element one is activated and the analysis is going a heat sink is
created in the partially activated second element. This is causing no
heat transfer to the substrate and the analysis is getting obviously
aborted. I

modelling bolts

Submitted by fanying on

Hi! All

I am modelling a connection by bolts. I already defined pre-tension surfaces and applied load to them. When I run my job, it is aborted. It informed my pretension surface is not pretension node. So, it couldn't apply a concentrated load.

How can I defined a pretension surface as a pretension node, help me?

Please show me clearly about this matter.

Thanhs
