Research Scientist - Mechanical Engineering Kettering University

Submitted by jbaqersad on

he NVH and Experimental Mechanics Laboratory (NVHEM) at Kettering University invites applications for a visiting research scientist position to help in projects related to NVH, structural health monitoring, material modeling, and finite element analysis. Some of these projects are sponsored by major automakers in Michigan

Double restabilization and design of force–displacement response of the extensible elastica with movable constraints

Submitted by Francesco Dal Corso on

May a double restabilization of the trivial path occurr at monotonically increasing compression force?

May movable constraints be exploited to attain target force–displacement curves?

We provide a positive answer to both of these questions in our paper: Koutsogiannakis, Bigoni, Dal Corso. Double restabilization and design of force-displacement response of the extensible elastica with movable constraints, European Journal of Mechanics - A/Solids (2022)

Applied Mechanics Division – Haythornthwaite Foundation Research Initiation Grants 2022

Submitted by Executive Comm… on

With funding from the Haythornthwaite Foundation, the Executive Committee (EC) of the Applied Mechanics Division (AMD) of ASME is pleased to announce the establishment of the Haythornthwaite Research Initiation Grant Program, targeting university faculty engaged in research in theoretical and applied mechanics that are at the beginning of their academic careers.

PhD Opportunities

Submitted by wayne on

Griffith University (Gold Coast, Australia) have PhD scholarships available for suitably qualified candidates. For the next competitive intake, we are looking to recommend two PhD candidates to work on the development of lightweight fibre-reinforced composite materials. We are particularly interested to hear from (and preference will be given to) applicants with some experience in the area of design, manufacture and testing (destructive or non-destructive) of composites, and/or machine learning (ML) techniques applied to engineering problems.
