Submitted by Mostafa Shazly on

The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at the British University in Egypt (BUE) has an opening for full time Research Associate to fill immediately. BUE is located in El-Shorouk City, 30 km east of Cairo and provides a UK work environment. Information about BUE and CAM can be found at www.bue.edu.eg and cam.bue.edu.eg.

Description: To work on aproject related to modeling of composite materials and structures. The project focuses on micromechanics, multifunctional constituents and finite element implementation of developed models.

Reinforced concrete beam in ANSYS 11

Submitted by grishma on

Hello,

I am trying to model a reinforced concrete beam in ANSYS 11. This software is new to me and I am having some problem in defining the reinforcement using the software. I have found some of the similar work in ANSYS have used SOLID 65 for concrete and LINK 8 for reinforcement. But I don't know how to input the link element as reinforcement. Since I am just starting to use ANSYS, can somebody please help me by providing some of the basic steps to model a reinforced concrete beam?

Thanks.

Teaching FEM to Biologists/Medics

Submitted by Lee Margetts on

All,

Could anyone recommend courses, online materials or text books that
would be suitable for teaching the finite element method to someone with
a non-engineering background. This request is on behalf of an MD
student wishing to use the FEM for modelling the wrist. We're initially
looking for introductory materials.

Best regards

Lee

Defining general contact in axisymmetric analysis with share node cohesive elements

Submitted by prabhat on

Dear All,

I am am using share node cohesive element in axisymmetric analysis. I want to use friction between two joined blocks when cohesive elements break. I tried this with using general contact definition in Abaqus 6.8. To do so, I am defining element based surface but while running the simulation the abaqus gives following error:

***ERROR: *CONTACT currently does not support the use of 2D surfaces.

Can anyone help to find out what can be wrong with my surface definition.

With regards and best wishes,

Prabhat
