Faculty Position in Mechanical Engineering at University of Chile

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on

Dear all,

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, at University of Chile, we are seeking to fill a faculty position with an exceptional researcher in areas related to Mechanical Engineering. The official call is expected to appear by March 2015.

A numerical study of elastic bodies that are described by constitutive equations that exhibit limited strains

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on

Recently, a very general and novel class of implicit bodies has been developed to describe the elastic response of solids. It contains as a special subclass the classical Cauchy and Green elastic bodies. Within the class of such bodies, one can obtain through a rigorous approximation, constitutive relations for the linearized strain as a nonlinear function of the stress. Such an approximation is not possible within classical theories of Cauchy and Green elasticity, where the process of linearization will only lead to the classical linearized elastic body.

I have funds for someone to come for a short visit (one to two weeks) to the University of Chile. You are eligible if:

a) You hold a Ph.D in Civil Engg, Mechanical Engg, Material Science, Mathematics or closely related field.

b) You currently work at any University, Research lab or similar.

c) One of your research areas is meshfree or finite element methods (including xfem and isogeometric analysis) for solid mechanics (preferably nonlinear).

d) You are able to come here before this October 31th.

Professor Yannis F. Dafalias to Receive the 2012 Nathan M. Newmark Medal from ASCE

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on

The American Society of Civil Engineers has awarded the 2012 Nathan M. Newmark Medal to Yannis F. Dafalias, a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Davis. The award honors Dafalias’s research in plasticity of metals and soils, finite elastic-plastic deformations, inherent and evolving anisotropy, and structural optimization.

THREE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS

Submitted by Alejandro Orti… on

The University of Chile invites applications for three full time tenure-track faculty positions in Mechanical Engineering. Applicants must have deep interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as the purpose to conduct long-term, externally funded research programs at international level. Candidates are also expected to maintain fruitful work relationships with industry in their respective areas. According to qualifications, they may be ranked at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Candidates are sought in three areas:
