Two postdoc positions in computational modeling of metallic additive manufacturing are available immediately in the research groups of Prof. Jinhui Yan at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and Prof. Wentao Yan at National University of Singapore (NUS). Successful candidates need to be self-motivated and have a solid background in mathematics, mechanics, numerical analysis, and programming (Fortran, C/C++, and Python).

Being able to create accurate medical devices that are closely matched to a patient’s unique anatomy requires precision imaging, measurements, and design. A critical part of PrinterPrezz’s unique medifacturing™ workflow is our process of turning magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans into a 3D CAD image that can be manipulated and used for 3D printing.

I hope some of you may find this work interesting. We show, analytically and numerically, that strain gradient plasticity predicts the existence of an inner elastic field adjacent to the crack tip, reminiscent of a dislocation-free zone. The fact that elastic strains dominate plastic strains near the crack tip implies a paradigm-shift with respect to previous crack tip asymptotic studies in plasticity and gradient plasticity, which neglect elastic strains.
