a question about ALE method

hi, I'm a student studying ALE method. In the book of "Nonlinear Finite Elements for Continua and Structures" written by Ted Belytschko el, conservation equations which discribed in the reference configuration and current configuration are given out (see chapter 7). But how about Balance Laws in initial configuration?

Illustration of Consistent Tangent Tensor

I am looking for a good geometric illustration of the consistent tangent tensor (corresponding to a stress update procedure).

The theory is "clear" for me, but sometimes i am confused when i wanted
to imagine the illustration of the difference between the consistent
tangent and the continuum tangent tensors.

Could someone recommend me a textbook or paper that presents a good schematic illustration ?

How do we use MSC-Marc finite element code to simulate the orthogonal metal cutting process? Is there anybody having example or tutorial about that?

Abaqus connector elements

hello everybody,



i have a problem by using connector
elements in a basically very simple situation in abaqus standard. I try
to model the damage or failure of this translational connector element
at a certain load level of 1000kN. bevor the system reaches this load
level should the element be very stiff.



does anyone see the mistake ???.



How to assign the same section to many parts in Abaqus?

I have a problem with a model. It contains over 450 parts that shall have the same section assigned. Is there some easy way to assign to all parts at one time? The abaqus version is 6.7-1.

FE optimization help

Hey guys (and gals). I have been working on a FEA. The problem I have been having is that I cannot find a FE package that allows for optimization to be performed. What I am trying to do is create a FE geometry parametrically and have the software change the specified parameters accordingly. I am currently trying Abaqus and I am unsure of how to assemble multiple objects into one geometry (say an extruded rectangle and cylinder). I am very new to using abaqus so I'm not sure what all it can do. I'm more familar with Comsol and Ansys. Thanks for any help.

Simulation of a Rigid body impacting a fluid layer

Hello,

I'am a French student, and I have to work on a student project with Ansys of which the aim is to know the pressure (during time) in a compressible fluid layer impacted by a cylindric rigid body having a constant velocity.

Do you know if it is possible to solve this problem with CFX/CFD Flotran, or if I have to explore an other way to solve my problem? Has somebody experience in this domain (impact, fluid), and could help me? Do you know some similar tutorials?

Boundary Element Method for the Cavity Problem

Dear BEM experts:

I am trying to find a boundary element solution for the problem of a cavity in an infinte space. The boundary condition is such that the cavity boundary is subjected to a constant radial influx. I have used the standard fundamental solution for the interior case (finite domain). The results, I obtained for the potential were reasonable for points inside the exterior region. However, on the boundary, the results for the potential were in the order of 10^12 (instead of zero value)!!

Any idea what went wrong. Thanks.
