mold filling simulation with flo3d

Submitted by masood_star on
I want to simulate mold filling of a bar mold with a semisolid alloy by means of FLOW3D cfd package. but there are some problem. for example when I input a file I encounter an error like "level   1 error in subroutine rdstl: level   1 error in subroutine rdstl"in preprocessor. what can I do? does my .stl file have any faults?
other problem with another project is that when i want to solve the problem I encounter an error like "convective flux exceeded stability limit".repeatedly. is my meshing insufficient? how can I solve that too?

Large Deformation Viscoelasticity and ANSYS Validation

Submitted by shrimad on

I am developing a fea code for a glass compression molding process. (involves contact analysis, viscoelastic material, axisymmetric analysis, quadrilateral element, small deformation model). With a small deformation model, I get an exact match with ANSYS, but the volume is not conserved after deformation. I want to conserve volume, and if I enable 'NLGEOM ON' in ANSYS the volume is conserved.

I am developing an FEA code for a viscoelastic contact analysis. Right now the formulation is assuming small deformations. After deformation I am getting the volume of the body to be less than the original. I want to preserve the volume. ANSYS gives exact results as my code by carrying a normal contact analysis.

Volume calculation from Axisymmetric Model

Submitted by shrimad on

Hi,

I am working on numerical simulation of compression glass molding process using FEM.

I want to calculate the volume of the glass after the FE analysis (axisymmetric). At the end of the analysis, all I have is the nodal co-ordinates and element connectivity of the deformed glass. Please guide me on calculating the volume using the above information.

Does ANSYS have the capability of giving the volume of an axisymmetric model?

Thanks,S

CFL number

I'm working at a University where we are developing and running interface software for CFD simmulations. There are no CFD specialists in my lab, however, so we get the information we need from a couple of other labs around campus.

Unfortunately, no one seems to know what the CFL number is, or how to use it.

Can I just get a simple explanation of the CFL number and a general range in which it should lie?

Thank you!

Inquiry about load displacement curves in Abaqus

Submitted by Sosso on

Hi all,

I am a modelling sandwich beams under three point bending in Abaqus Explicit, and my load displacement curves are quite strange. To plot them, I use the vertical displacement and reaction force of the loading indenter given in the field output data. Is it the right way to do it? (I'm quite new in Abaqus)

Thank you very much

Simple ABAQUS beam contact problem (errors)

Hello,

Just started ABAQUS last week.  How can I model to beam that contact
each other?  They just seem to go through each other, and when I define
interaction contraints as "ridgid" bodies the I get several errors.

Does anyone have a link or a copy of a tutorial I could go through showning exactly how to run a contact element case?

Thanks,

PJ

(sorry if you already saw this in as imechanica, i didnt see how to select the correct section)
