crack tip closure concept

Submitted by uni_students2009 on

measurment of FCG based on crack tip closure concept depend on :

1- experimental technique

2-location of the measurement

3- mean stress effect on FG at high stress ratio can not be explained by the closure model due to the absense of the crack closure at high loads.

Two question can be investigated as follows:

1- why crack tip closure is popular and it widely use in hightech industry like aircraft industry acording to overwiew of scentific articles.?

how to start a research

Submitted by mbmohan on

hi all,

I am a mechanical engineer currently pursuing Master degree (Post graduation). Ultimately i also want to pursue a research leading to PhD after my master's. Its my burning desire to do some significant research in the field of Fatigue analysis using Fracture mechanics approach preferably for aerospace domain using advanced CAE softwares like Nasgrow, Afgrow, Abaqus, FE-safe, MSC Fatigue, etc,..

Analysis of KII for Mode II loading using ansys

Submitted by kirthanlj on

Sir,

Iam pursuing my PhD in Fracture mechanics.  The thing is I analysed a crack problem with straight crack front and subjected to mode I loading using ansys i.e Three point bending. I was able to get the result for SIF I (KI) in ansys. I took the local coordinate system at the crack tip using three nodes.

Hi!

Can anyone give me some tips within strain based fracture mechanics. My problem is predicting the fatigue life of a gusset speciemen, using strain based FM. I have read some litterature, but have problems on understanding the order of calculating, and methods of solving the equations. If anyone could help me understanding, I would be greatful.

Thanks,

Sean Angus

Strain Based Fracture Mechanics

Hi!

I`m new to this webpage, and hope for some good answers for use in my masters degree within fatigue. Currently I`m working on calculating the total life of a gusset specimen using strain based fracture mecahnics. I`ve read som articles on the topic, but have some difficulties on understanding the calculations itself. I`m using Excel in the calculations. If anyone has an excel-sheet, or other ways of helping me, I would hihgly appreciate it.

Thanks, Sean Angus

Automatic failed element removal

Submitted by manoochehr on

Hi every one,

I think that there is a method for automatic failed element removal  using UMAT subroutine, I mean that at every iteriation failed elements with the help of a failure criterion to be indicated and to its material behaviour to set to zero and this means that a path for crack propagation will form .... Anyway, if any body is intrested we can clarify this subroutine step by step for all of the visitors in this website, I mean that an open source subroutine to be expanded here.

Thank you,
