Postdoctoral Positions in Computational Mechanics and Multiphysics at the US Naval Research Laboratory

The Multifunctional Materials Branch of the Materials Science & Technology Division at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC has an interest in postdoctoral associate candidates for several areas in computational mechanics and multiphysics.

Topic of interest include: a) biomechanics of injury at high-rate of deformation at multiple scales, b) multiscale dynamics of flexible armor, c) crystal plasticity and dislocation dynamics in electrically assisted deformation of metals, and d) multiphysics modeling of corrosion.

Cracking of the concrete cover due to reinforcement corrosion

 Our paper titled "Cracking of the concrete cover due to reinforcement corrosion: A two-dimensional lattice model study"

 has just been published in Construction and Building Materials. It deals with numerical modelling of cracking of the concrete cover as a consequence of reinforcement corrosion, based on the Delft lattice model framework. Corrosion modelling in COMSOL 4.2

Hello everybody,

 

I am trying to model corrosion process of steel-reinforcement embedded in concrete with COMSOL 4.2 version.

 So, please anybody has any suggestion how to do it..

 Well, if there are any other software which can model corrosion in a more simple way, please suggest that also.

Corrosion rates of reinforcing steel in cracked concrete

Research assistant and PhD position at PoliMi on corrosion-fatigue

Raiway axle failures have been the starting point for the studies on fatigue. However, recent accidents and papers (see [1] by Hoddinott) have shown that corrosion-fatigue plays a significant role.

At PoliMi we have recently investigated this topic finding interesting results by corrosion-fatigue tests on small-scale specimens and, recently, a validation of the model by full-scale corrosion-fatigue tests (see papers [2-3]).

Subsea Integrity

I am teaching Subsea Integrity for the MSc students majoring in Subsea Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen. This is a course that combines the fundamental principles (corrosion, fracture, fatigue and material selection) with the industry applications (subsea integrity management and implementation, cathodic protection, case studies on subsea reliability and engineering assurance).
