Over the past several years, machine learning (ML) applied to problems in mechanics has massively grown in popularity. Here is a figure from a slide that I made in early 2020 referencing a few examples from the literature — already this slide feels out of date! All of these authors (and many many others) have published new papers on this topic.
As more researchers apply ML methods to problems in mechanics, I believe two methodological questions have become increasingly important:

Postdoc positions are available in the group of Prof. JG Zhu at Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, China. Those possessing PhDs in the area of solid experimental mechanics are sought. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in artificial intelligence on experimental measurements and nondestructive techniques.
We have an open PhD position in the areas of perception, planning, and control of autonomous systems in DSIM lab. Highly motivated applicants with prior experience in robotics, control and/or machine learning and strong programming skills and mathematical background are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
