Example of an abaqus certification exam

Submitted by Intissar on

Hello everyone,

the task is as follows:

W01C0001-Introduction Beam 1D (not scored)

In this section you will create a 1D finite element model (beam) and run a linear static analysis. You will be assessed on your ability to perform the following:

  - create a simple 1D model with beam elements,

  - manage units, various loadings, boundary conditions,

  - explore the main output variables globally and at specific points.

Converting viscoelastic Prony Series terms from ABAQUS to LS-DYNA

In Abaqus,

g(t) = 1 - ∑(gi * (1-exp(-t/taui));

in which g and gi are dimensionless.

In LS-DYNA,

G(t) = ∑( Gi * exp(-betai * t) );

in which G and Gi are in N/m2

Based on this information, how do we transform the Prony Series terms from one code to another or vice-versa given I don't have the test data available.

Problem with MPC subroutine to implement proportional loading (i.e. stress ratios constant) with *ORIENTATION feature in ABAQUS.

Submitted by vilstk234 on

I am using an MPC subroutine to implement proportional loading on a cubic RVE. This subroutine serves the purpose of keeping stress ratios constant (<0.8% error) if I don't use *Orientation. But once I add  *Orientation feature in the input file, the subroutine fails to keep stress ratios constant (>23% error).

Note: I am defining the material orientation triad along the triad of cubic RVE.

What fatigue damage model do you suggest to use in numerical simulations?

I want to simulate fatigue damage of foams (like PVCs). What fatigue damage model do you suggest? What model is regularly used in Industry? is there anyone who simulate fatigue damage in Abaqus?
Any information is welcomed...

Possible opportunities for a Fracture mechanics engineer in industry

Submitted by dude on

Hi community,

 Recently I have been wondering for what type of job a PhD holder in Fracture Mechanics can apply in indusrty.

Should I only look for Fracture and Damage Mechanics related posts? Or I can go for some other possibilities, considering that I wanna continue as a reserach engineer in industry.

Thanks for your tips and help
