Lateral torsional buckling of I beams with restraint

Submitted by Vanadium on

I am looking to model buckling of I steel beams with restraint in abaqus. But I do not know how to make rigid connections between the steel members.

Why is the other beam( beam with fixed supports) not stressed? How do i define contact between the two beams.

Can terminate simulation when crack starts to propagate in Abaqus?

Submitted by Wang Lei on

Is it possible to terminate the simulation when crack starts to propagate in XFEM? How can I specify the following function?

if (crack start to propagate)

    abaqus job=xfemjob terminate

end

Is it possible to set in input file? Or I have to resort to user subtoutine?

history output coordinate of crack tip in Abaqus XFEM

Submitted by Wang Lei on

Can anyone help on how to output the cooridinate of crack tip in Abaqus XFEM as a history output? For example, a output like

t x y z

is expected.

I know the Abaqus use two level-set functions to determine the coordinate of crack tip. When both PHILSM and PSILSM vanish, Abaqus has the coordinate of crack tip. I can output both PHILSM and PSILSM as field output. And the crack can be explicitly shown in the viewer. But how can I extract this information as X-Y data.

tools used in engenering

Submitted by Banan El Kerdi on

Good morning ,

My final project in study is concerning mechanical behavior and themal loads for a vaporizer

used in an  incinerator .

But, I should use a free tools.

So I make the design in freeCAD... When I need to mesh the design I am blocked because I can't do this task with FreeCAD.

so I do this strategie:

FreeCAD=> Gmsh=>calculix=>paraview.

Is it a good work in engenering?

another question I need to install gmsh on linux but I failed can you tell me how I can configure

Dear friends,

I am a beginner in using Abaqus. Now I am doing a project which calls for a simulation of the phase change probleme (two demensional Stephan problem).

I did a simple simulation with water, more prescisely a water slab of 10 C at the left I impose a temperature -10 C, so I got the results of the profils of temperature in every increment of time.

Hi guys,

I'm a new Abaqus user and I do not know how to perform shock analysis after frequency analysis in Abaqus. Can anyone help me with introducing the procedure or giving an example?

Thank you in advance. :)

Measuring damage variables from load-unload test (damage mechanics)

Hi All,

I want to use ductile damage model in ABAQUS to model the damage of thermoplastic polymers, in which I need to input the damage evolution law (\dot{d}).

My question is on the way we have to measure the variable d.

Suppose I have 10 cycles of load-unload test. For slope of the first load will be initial Young's modulus at undamaged state E_0. now for the next cycle, which part of the curve we need to measure their slope to get the damage variable (d = 1 - E/E_0).
