Hi every one

I am doing my master in civil engineering at U.K.M. University in Malaysia. I want to learn 1 FEM software. But I don’t no which of them is better for me ,ansys or abaqus?. My thesis is about concrete filled tubular.

I must model concrete and steel, and I think I face contact problem to define connection between concrete and steel.

Plastic Equation

Submitted by Nur Izzi Md. Yusoff on

Hello,

I want to develop a mechanical model for poylmer modified asphalt. Could somebody please help me to find plastic (slider) equation in complex form/number. For example, elastic (spring) element can be replaced by the notation of 'E' and parabolic element with '(iwt)-^h', respectively. Many thanks.

Dear all,

Do you have any reference about the theory of plasticity? Especially about flow theory and von Mises yield criterion?

For example if I have an effective stress - plastic strain relationship, and I after yielding, I increase my strain again, how can I obtain the increment of the plastic strain and the stress deviator tensor?

Thanks a lot.

Best,

Ray

Sharing ABAQUS UMAT and VUMAT subroutines

I have noticed that a lot of people are using UMAT and VUMAT material model
subroutines for their researches. However, most of these subroutines do not
find their way to free code market and remain in the hands of the developers.
Therefore, a lot of wheel re-inventing has to be done by other people. Since
development and testing of a material subroutine takes a damn long time, I
think it is a good idea if each of us can share the subroutines she has
developed with the others. I know that a couple of subroutines are publicly

Ansys Ls-Dyna

I am using
Ansys Ls-Dyna to solve a case where a rigid indentor in the shape of bow
penetrates double skinned structural models. I want to use UPF (User
Programmable Features)
in order to define a custom failure criterion. From the “Guide
to Ansys User Programmable Features” I read that the specific subroutine (usrfc6)
for defining custom failure criteria is available only with shell99, solid46
and shell91
. However in Ansys Ls-Dyna, the user cannot use neither of the above
shell elements. The only shell element that is used in explicit dynamics is
shell163. Is there any way to program or use my failure criterion in Ansys

opportunities for PhDs in solid mechanics in San Jose, CA

My wife just got a very nice job offer from an IT firm in San Jose.  We've been in the east coast for years and I have not researched the bay area very much.  I would like to get some general information about industry opportunities for PhDs in solid mechanics, such as what the top employers and industries are.

Any input is appreciated.
