Section definition influences the finite element size?

Submitted by Gabriel Sas on

I have a doubt regarding the next situation: I'm using a 2D shell deformable part with a solid homogeneous section (plane stress/strain thickness ratio=100) in a standard analysis (static general/static Riks). Should be in this case my mesh always bigger or equal to 100?

Is the plane stress/strain thickness ratio size influencing the minimum finite element size in ABAQUS?

How to deal with the constitutive integration in plasticity?

Submitted by Bin Ji on

Plastic theory has been developed systematically. As a beginner, however, some questions have confused me for a long time.

As is well known, the constitutive integration must be deal with in the flow theory. Instead of the explicit algorithm such as M-iteration, the implicit one - stress update algorithm - has been attractive for its simplicity, the most famous of which is rp (return mapping) for J2 flow theory.

reinforced concrete walls under cyclic (quasi-static) loading in ABAQUS

Submitted by Gabriel Sas on

Hi,

I started modelling the
behaviour of the reinforced concrete walls under cyclic loading using
ABAQUS/Explicit
.  I used a shell element part with solid homogeneous
section and defined the concrete behaviour using concrete damaged plasticity
material definition. Embedded truss elements were used to define the steel
rebars. In 2 different steps (left and right) I defined the cyclic loading (in
plane) as imposed displacement (using amplitude-smooth step).

My question are:

Request Elasticity Lecture Notes

Hi all,

Do you have some lecture notes in Elasticity course? Especially about plane stress/strain, airy stress function, variational and energy method?

Because I really want to improve myself in this.

And if I have a potential energy equation by variational principle, how can I obtain the displacement equation?

Thank you very much.

Best,

Ray

hello guyes!

I have meet a question when design a composite structure, I just have some materials such as UN, DB, and some loads vector, what shoul I to determine the numbers and array of laminates?

I'm very interested in the choice of the finite element spaces for elasticity. I want to choose elements for the stress and the velocity, I was suggested to use piecewise constant for the stress and piecewise linear for the velocities to satisfy the Babuska-Brezzi condition. Is that right? I've heard that I can't use only 6 components for the stress in this way, but I must add some additional constraint to enforce its simmetry. I'm looking for additional documentation, but I can't find any. Has someone got any suggestion? Thanks.

I have just started working on ABAQUS (6.6.1) and have practised simple tutorials.I need to work on the plastic analysis of tubular structures..If any one of you have got any tutorial on tubular structures..please send me..Expecting a positive response.....

Thank you,

Pre-stress & Initial stress

Hi AllI am working on Simulation of nonlinear phenomena in MEMS devices. I do not know for residual stress in Microcantilever beam I should use pre stress or initial stress. I checked initial stress by Shell 181 and solid 186, but answers are for from experiments (around 100 times). I do not know what the difference between initial stress and pre stress is.

Respected sirs/madams

I am working on failure analysis of concrete. I am trying to simulate in ANSYS, I heard about element birth/death option for changing the status of element during analysis. My doubt is whether I can use this element birth/death option for analysis or this is only used as a postprocessing tool.

I am trying is to reduce the stiffness of the elements whose maximum principal stress reaches the ultimate strength of concrete and than further apply load in the susequent load step on the finite element model whose elements are removed.
