3D FEA of stress concentration

Dear all,

 

I am simulating tensile specimens with an elliptical pore(representing a flaw in the material) in the mid-cross section of the specimen. What I am looking for is the stress concentration caused by this pore.

I am simulating this as a 3D specimen under tensile loading only, with 3D, 8-node linear brick elements(1st order). Now my questions are:

1- Is there any analytical solution for such problems(3D with elliptical pore) with which I can compare my FEA results?

Characteristic impedance of a tube

Hi all,

I need to calculate the characteristic (or specific) impedance of a tube. Generally this tube has a varing cross-sectional area (diameter changes and it has tube is not cylidrical). However for a very simplified case, let's assume it is a perfect cylender terminated at a finite length. The walls and termination are not rigid so it will have interaction with acoustic pressure inside.

A single theory for some quasi-static, supersonic, atomic, and tectonic scale applications of dislocations

We describe a model based in continuum mechanics that reduces the study of a significant class of problems of discrete dislocation dynamics to questions of the modern theory of continuum plasticity. As applications, we explore the questions of the existence of a Peierls stress in a continuum theory, dislocation annihilation, dislocation dissociation, finite-speed-of-propagation effects of elastic waves vis-a-vis dynamic dislocation fields, supersonic dislocation motion, and short-slip duration in rupture dynamics.
