Call for Abstracts: SES 2017@Boston, Symposium II-B: Computational Mechanics of Soft Materials in Medicine

Submitted by Hongyan Yuan on

Dear Colleagues,

We encourage you to contribute an abstract to our symposium “Symposium II-B: Computational Mechanics of Soft Materials in Medicine” at the 54th Annual Technical Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science (SES) to be held at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, July 25-28, 2017.

Short Course on Mechanics of Foams

Submitted by Stavros Gaitanaros on

A short course on the “Mechanics of Liquid and Solid Foams” will be offered at CISM, the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences in Udine, Italy, 3-7 July 2017 (see brochure attached).

The course will focus on relationships between the cellular microstructure and nonlinear mechanical behavior of liquid and solid foams, and foam-like biological and synthetic materials. Theoretical models, experimental methods, and numerical simulations will be presented. The course is aimed at PhD students, postdocs, and researchers in academia and industry.

The speakers are:

How to plot path length over time in Abaqus?

Submitted by j.ferreira on

Dear Abaqus users,

I intend to plot the true distance of a path over all the steps of my simulation.

One way is to create xy-data of an arbitrary output field over the true distance of the path, for each step.  Do you have any suggestion how I can get (true distance vs time) straightforwardly and faster?

Thank you for your time and consideration

Best regards,

jferreira

Research Fellow (PhD) position in SERB funded project at BITS Pilani (Goa Campus)

Submitted by Gaurav Singh on

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has funded a 3 year project to BITS Pilani (Goa Campus), India. The project will apply statistical ideas of failure mechanics - at an experimental and analytical level to periodic/lattice composites.

Details of application are mentioned in the attachment.

Performance Optimization of a Centrifugal Fan

Submitted by ADT on

You hear about it everywhere: design optimization. The world requires more efficient and reduced emissions products, as with the government regulations directives mandating their adherence to energy standards such as EU’s Ecodesign directive. The competitive pressure across the industry means that it is no longer sufficient to design and manufacture fans that simply work. Energy efficiency, over an extended operating range, has become a vital objective of design effort along with performance to suit the machine’s intended application.
