We are seeking to recruit students for two doctoral projects arising as part of a long-term collaboration with Rolls-Royce. In particular, the projects will support future design of large gas turbine engines for civil aviation. Our section at the Delft University of Technology is organizing this years' edition of the "Multi-scale modelling Course for Concrete" between 21-24 of August in Delft, the Netherlands. The course considers concrete on scales ranging from nanometre (MD) to micrometre (cement paste hydration) and metre (complete structure) scale. £1 million awarded for 5 year project for virtual testing of components

Simpleware software user Dr. Llion Evans of Swansea University and the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy has received £1 million in funding for a five-year project into virtual testing of new components. Funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the research looks at how image-based simulation using 3D X-ray imaging can virtually evaluate manufactured components.

Conversion of Piezoelectric coefficients

Hello everyone,

I am interested on simulating the converse Piezoelectric effect of materials and I have given the mechanical (Youngs modulus and Poissoin's ratio) and electric material properties (Electric Permittivity, Piezoelectric coupling matrix etc). However from the literature I got double index notation, I am struggling to convert double index notation to triple index notation.

The double index notation from literature is as follows:

Wiki surface - an open access encyclopedia of surfaces

Dear Mechanicians,

a new project at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca (Lucca, Italy) has just been launched to create the first open access database of rough surfaces from nature and technology, see:

People are invited to contribute to the database by providing images of surfaces acquired using experimental techniques, as well as the corresponding elevation data field (raw x,y,z data in columns).
