a question about Euler beam in ABAQUS

Submitted by chunhuizhang on

To eliminate the unwanted axial strain constraint, in Abaqus the stretch dL/dS at the node of each such element is taken as an internal variable, local to the element (a third internal node is created for this purpose, and so it is not shared with neighboring elements.)

Above paragraph is excerpted from chapter about Euler beam theory in ABAQUS theory manual.

Post-Doctoral Positions at the Tsinghua Center for Combustion Energy

Submitted by frankwanger on

A Center for Combustion Energy has been established at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

The need for such a center is motivated by the central role that combustion plays in energy sustainability and climate change,

by the emergence of China as a major industrialized nation and her commitment to seek solutions to these global problems,

and by the potential that combustion can contribute to the advance of diverse disciplines of frontier science that involve reacting flows.

ExpRing-----a tool to simulate fragment of brittle materials

Submitted by Duan Zhong on

This is a free tool to simulate the fragment of brittle materials. You can use it to calculate the fragmentation of some differernt materials with different weakened styles. Also you can use different model to analyze your fragment process. The tool and its introduction are showing the attachment.

Abaqus simulation

Submitted by phanikumar376 on

hi,

i am new to abaqus , i working on a simulation of wire drawing process in Abqus explict, i had modeled the die as a Axisymmetric rigid body and the surface as a analytical rigid surface and the wire as a axisymmetric deformable body and i had given the materail properties of wire and define the contact properties between the die surface and the wire surface, when i started the simuation, there is excessive deformation of the elements in the wire, as the elements pass through the die they are trying to regain back. some please help me how to get rid of this issue.

Virtual Conference on Nanoscale Science and Technology October 26 - 29, 2011 Chengdu, China

The Virtual Conference on Nanoscale Science and Technology (VCNST) is in fact so much more than just another conference. We have an opportunity together to be explorers as we enter a new era of sharing and dialoguing about science.

List of conferences in contact mechanics and related fields

Submitted by Edwin Vollebregt on

Dear all,

At our website we maintain a list of upcoming conferences on contact mechanics and related fields, e.g. solid mechanics, tribology, railway vehicle dynamics, etc.

Which conferences and other events do you attend? Send me a note and I'll add them to the list.

Best wishes,

Edwin Vollebregt

Molecular Dynamics from Solid Mechanics Point of View

Submitted by saurabhdixit1987 on

I am searching for a tutorial or a book which looks into molecular dynamics method from a Solid Mechanics point of view. All I can find are the books written for biophysicists or chemistry. I can find lot of examples on fluids, biomolecules or polymers but none of them are on simple solids or metals.

Can anyone suggests me a book or a tutorial which can get me ready to write a program to simulate a simple tensile test of a metal wire (FCC Al or some simple crystal).
