Tensile test under LS-DYNA

Submitted by Manaliac on

Dear all,

I would like to run a tensile test under ls-dyna of a mild steel  and
apply a 7000 N load to the dog bone specimen on a explicite scheme.

Unfortunately, I
have wild deformations ( and an error) on the nodes on edges where the
load is applied, so can you please tell me what are the importants
constants (like time termination, mass scale,...) and how to perform a
perfect run?

Have a good day,

Thank you

M.

The surface effect on the strain energy release rate of buckling delamination in thin film–substrate systems

Submitted by tongqing.lu on

Gurtin–Murdoch continuum surface elasticity model is employed to study the buckling

delamination of ultra thin film–substrate system. The effects of surface deformation and

residual stress on the large deflection of ultra thin film are considered in analysis. A

concept of effective bending rigidity (EBR) for ultra thin plate is proposed on the basis of

Gurtin–Murdoch continuum theory and the principle of minimum potential energy. The

governing equations with EBR are formally consistent with the classical plate theory,

Wave propagation simulation in elastic bar

Submitted by ak10182 on

Hi ,

I'm working on simulation of wave propagation in a bar. I'm using
newmark time integration scheme to solve my problem. I have a bae
clamped at one end and under tensile at the other end. when I decrease
my time step ,at the beginning of the loading I see tiny negative
strains which is so weird. I used some numerical damping with the scheme
and I could reduce the time step but still I have this problem in
smaller time steps. Can anyone help me with this?

  Thank you very much!!!

One postdoctoral position in advanced concrete materials starting May 2012

Submitted by Mijia Yang on

Dear All,

I am looking for one postdoctor to work on advanced concrete materials and modeling. The desired candidates will have a solid knowledge on concrete materials and mechanics, and are familiar with advanced modeling of hydration, water or chemical transfer in concrete. Extra considerations will be given to candidates with some experimental experiences on concrete microstructures and material characterization.

PhDs/Postdocs in modeling composite structures/materials

Submitted by Wenbin Yu on

Dear All,

I am looking for highly motivated PhDs/PostDocs to join my group to work on various aspects of efficient high-fidelity modeling of composite structures/materials, mainly related with VABS/VAPAS/VAMUCH. The basic qualifications are: basic training in solid mechanics and composite materials, excellent math and programming skills, and good English communication skills. Please let me know if you are interested or if you know somebody is interested.

Parametric study

Submitted by PPascal on

Dear Mechanicans,

I work with Abaqus 6.11-1 and would create a parametric study to studie results from multiple analysis.

In my first example I use a geometric easy specimen where I sampling the young's modulus in a cube.

I create and perform a parametric study what works very well. But if I would gather results of one element set from the output database (odb) Abaqus prompt that "element or node labeles are required". I have read the Abaqus User's Manual but dosent found a suitable solution.

for any helpful hints I am very grateful.
