Two Ph.D positions immediately available in Mechanics of Materials starting from Fall, 2013

Submitted by nanothu on

Two Ph.D. positions will be immediately available in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA,
US. Both positions will start in Fall, 2013. The research program will focus on
mechanics of soft composite materials and its novel application in healthcare,
lightweight nano-composites for energy absorption, and renewable energy
harvesting, etc. The research will involve a combination of experimental
measurements, analytical modeling, and numerical simulation methods. We are
looking for self-motivated and creative candidates (preferable graduate

UMAT Multi-element Issues

Submitted by nibalog on

Hello All:

I have written a UMAT code to predict the viscoelastic behaviour within a shape adaptive structure. I have followed similar steps used in Abaqus subroutine manual, I have applied this UMAT to a single quad element and it works as predicted. But when I apply it multiple elements model it breaks down.

Is there any special command i need to put in UMAT subroutine to account multi element analysis? I will appreciate all related comments,

Thanks

Overhead Electrical Conductors and High Intensity Wind

Submitted by Alain Cardou on

Effect of tornadoes on electrical power lines has been discussed by Sébastien Langlois in his M.Eng. thesis : “Design of Overhead Transmission Lines subject to Localized High Intensity Wind”. McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, 2007 (available on-line on the “Theses Canada” portal). Work presents various national and international standards (ASCE, Cigré, IEC etc.), historical cases, as well as models for numerical simulation.

a question about XFEM

Submitted by souvenir on

Hellow everyone,

I've been studying XFEM method in Abaqus these days, then i want to model an inclusion problem to see the crack initiation and propagation at the interface. First i sketch a square to stand for a unit cell, then in order to assign different sections to inclusion and matrix, i cut a circle (circular inclusion) from the initial square. But when it comes to meshing, i don't know how to mesh the instance with structral quad elements independantly of the outline of the inclusion. Could anyone help me?

Stress-Strain curve for Concrete Damaged Plasticity in Abaqus

Submitted by parthchoksi on

Hello,

I am using Concrete Damaged Plasticity model. My parameters are correct but I am not able to get the desired stress-strain curve for my model.

Can anyone help me with how do I plot the stress strain curve for it (Nominal Stress vs Strain, Reaction force vs displacement or anything else)?

I want to know the exact procedure to do it.

Thanks in advance.

Need Help for Abaqus/CAE ( best method for fatigue test for tensile test for a number of cycle)

Submitted by reddy8929 on

Dear friends, i current doing a project work on testing fatigue life of superelastic nitinol. And since i am very new in using abaqus for testing the simulation, i seeking help from people around here to ask for method to test the work. My objective is to set a maximum elongation for 1%-6% of elongation and test for 40,000 cycle if it can work for this amount of cycle..

i Hope anyone can help me as i need to finish this project in order to graduate and i didnt get any single help from regarding this software from my side..
