Ph.D. positions in flexible electronics at University of Southern California

Submitted by Hangbo Zhao on

We have several Ph.D. positions available in our group (https://sites.usc.edu/zhaogroup/) in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at University of Southern California for Fall 2023. We are an interdesciplinary group with broad interests in flexible and stretchable sensors, experimental mechanics, advanced materials, and micro/nano manufacturing. Our focus areas include 3D soft electronics, brain-machine interfaces, unconventional micro/nano fabrication, and engineered surfaces/interfaces.

Submitted by xiangzhang on

The Computations for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory (CAMML) in the College of Engineering and Physical Science at the University of Wyoming has an immediate opening for a PhD research assistant available, in the general area of modeling of damage and failure in heterogeneous material subjected to multiphysics environment, with a starting date of Spring 2023.

Research Fellow position in cell mechanics available at NTU, Singapore

Submitted by Changjin Huang on

We are seeking strongly motivated candidates to fill one Research Fellow position in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The successful candidate will work on experimental studies in the area of cell mechanics. We are particularly interested in candidates with research experience in tissue engineering, drug delivery, mechanobiology and applied mechanics.

Required Qualifications:

Modeling fatigue of pre-corroded metals with unified mechanics theory

Submitted by Hsiao-Wei Lee on

The unified mechanics theory (UMT) was used to develop a model to predict the fatigue life of pre-corroded steel samples with BCC structure. Details of the experimental validation are also provided.

Wrinkling of twisted thin films

Submitted by Fan Xu on

Thin films usually exhibit instabilities and yield intricate wrinkles when two clamped ends are twisted. Here, we explore the wrinkling behavior and pitch-fork bifurcation of twisted thin films experimentally and theoretically. To quantitatively predict the post-buckling evolution of twist-induced wrinkling morphology, we develop a refined finite-strain plate model derived from 3D field equations and then solve it by using the finite element method with COMSOL. We examine the effects of aspect ratios and pre-tension on the wrinkling profile.
