On Tensegrity in Cell Mechanics

Submitted by Konstantin Volokh on

All models are wrong, but some are useful. This famous saying mirrors the situation in cell mechanics as well. It looks like no particular model of the cell deformability can be unconditionally preferred over others and different models reveal different aspects of the mechanical behavior of living cells. The purpose of the present work is to discuss the so-called tensegrity models of the cell cytoskeleton. It seems that the role of the cytoskeleton in the overall mechanical response of the cell was not appreciated until Donald Ingber put a strong emphasis on it.

Delamination using cohesive interaction

Submitted by abhishekaran on

Hello,

Im trying to simlate delamination in abaqus and after going through the documentation i decided to go for the cohesive element approac. In the documentation it is mentioned that we use a general contact(explicit) for the interation but when i do that i am unable to use general, static step. So which step do i go for if i i want to simulate a static delamination ?

Is my work worth PhD ?

Submitted by kirthanlj on

I am pursuing my phD in one of the universities in india in fracture mechanics. I have completed all the formalities of my university before submitting the final thesis report like completing the course work examinations and comprehensive vivavoce. My work is related to accurate stress intensity factor determination at the crack tip through FEA approach for a mixed mode crack propagation.I have taken a new methodology suggested in one of the old journal papers in FEM and I have used the formulae mentioned in that paper to extract the SIF results.

Mechanics for soft machines

I gave a seminar at Xian Jiaotong University on 27 October 2009.  I recently found the video of the seminar online.  The seminar was in Chinese, but the slides were in English.

If the subject interests you, the following papers will lead you to the literature.
