Opening for a new Ph.D. student in the Computational Mechanics group, The University of Iowa.

Submitted by leeshams on

The Computational Mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for a new Ph.D. student, who is capable of and interested in performing high-quality research on uncertainty quantification for dynamical or time-varying systems. The research, supported by the Department of Energy, requires building a solid mathematical foundation, devising efficient numerical algorithms, and developing practical computational tools, all associated with the stochastic analysis of complex materials and structures.

Critical pressure of delamination of a film and a vessel

Submitted by ibiomechanic on

Following the approach of Griffith, Sneddon and Muskhelishvili calculated the pressure of tear propagation in elastic media. Gent and Lewandowski collected these works and using Hencky's approximation of membrane deformation, introduced a collection of relationships on the debonding of films from substrates by pressure (left panel).
