What's Your Problem?

Submitted by Martin Pratt on

Rather than scratching heads when faced with a seemingly impossible contradiction in a job, engineers could do worse than apply the Triz theory.

There has been quite a buzz around Triz, the Russian theory of problem solving, for some time. Since it was fully refined in the mid-1980s its use has been slowly spreading as word gets round, much like the increasing popularity of a political movement.

Do I really belong here?

Submitted by Timm A Vanderelli on

Greetings iMechanicans

I've been struggling with a optics project for almost 3 years. I say struggle because my lack of a formal physics education leaves an accurate hypothesis out of my reach. I understand solid-state physics, as well as electromagnetic wave theory from my 40+ years of experience and research in these fields.

I hope to spark the mind(s) of anyone who could possibly explain an optomagnetic anomaly that results from this simple Superparamagnetic event that I've created.

Should I leave and try to find the answer elsewhere?
