华中科技大学于2012年创办了“国际青年学者东湖论坛”（以下简称“东湖论坛”），至今已成功举办五届，共邀请到来自30多个国家和地区的近1000名优秀青年学者来校参会。

“东湖论坛”旨在为海内外不同学科领域的青年才俊搭建一个学术交流平台。通过专题报告、学术研讨和人才洽谈等形式，共同探讨国际科技前沿话题，追踪学术热点问题，开拓学术视野，启迪学术灵感，促进交流合作，引进各学科海内外优秀青年人才。
