We have Ph.D. positions in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) with a primary focus on the mechanobiology of cells and tissues. We are looking for candidates with a background in solid and fluid mechanics to work in a collaborative environment. Our research develops integrated computational and experimental tools to understand and harness the role of mechanics in physiological processes such as wound healing, and pathological processes such as fibrocontractile diseases and tumor progression.

Multiple fully funded PhD positions are available as early as Fall, 2022 in Dr. Ning Zhang’s research group at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). The research work will focus on the mechanical and thermal properties of structural and multifunctional materials.

The research topics include:

(1)   Polymer composites;

(2)   Medium/High entropy alloys;

(3)   Biomaterials;

(4)   Machine learning.

Postdoc positions

Qualifications:

·       Ph.D. degree in Engineering Mechanics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a closely related area.

We are looking for an outstanding postdoc for research on statistical finite elements and Bayesian inference in structural/solid mechanics with applications to digital twins. 

Candidates should have a strong background in at least two of the following:

• Computational Solid/Structural Mechanics 
• Bayesian Inference and Probabilistic Machine Learning 
• Uncertainty Quantification
• Constitutive modelling

Additional experience and skills required include:

Two PhD positions in the area of computational materials science (one is on Kinetic Monte Carlo Modeling of interface phenomena and another one on phase field modeling of solid-state phase transformation) is available in the Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at the Virginia Tech. Candidates should be strongly self-motivated individuals in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science and engineering or other closely related disciplines.
