WCFA2022-VFA workshop on Vibration Fatigue Analysis

This is the invitation to the Workshop on Computational Fatigue Analysis 2022, which is held on the important topic of Vibration Fatigue Analysis this year. Key researchers in this topic in Europe - Denis Benasciutti, Adam Nieslony, Filippo Cianetti, Janko Slavič and Massimiliano Palmieri - will summarize their knowledge and experience to the expert audience. The event takes place in few weeks, between November 14 and 16 in Prague, Czechia. If you find this location too far away from your workplace, you can use the on-line mode of the attendance.

Remote Mechanics Teaching. How to do it well?

Many of us will be teaching remotely soon.  I wonder what is most effective when it comes to mechanics.

In our department we have been having meetings to help professors figure out what is the approach to the online teaching modality.  There have been lots of suggestions:

Just released, 105 homework problems for mechanics of composite materials in Webwork environment. You can choose 105 randomized (each student gets different data) or the same 105 problems but not-randomized to make it easier to teach online (all students work with same data so it is easier to answer questions online). WCFA workshop on Design and Fatigue of Weldments

This is the second announcement about the upcoming Workshop on Computational Fatigue Analysis 2017, this year dedicated to Design and Fatigue of Weldments (WCFA2017-DFW - http://www.pragtic.com/DFW.php). The workshop is held in Prague, Czech Republic in November 13-16, 2017. The key lecturer, who guides the audience through various issues of the fatigue analysis in welds, is Dr Zuheir Barsoum from KTH - Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.

What's the difference between deviatoric tensor and skew tensor?

I read two books about  deviatoric tensor and skew tensor, but they have diffrerent denote.

One says the deviatoric tensor is decomposed from the symmetric tensor; the other one state that  from any tensor.

So, I was confused!

I have one Finite Element Analysis Question.



For static analysis inertia and damping forces are negligible. To what extent must the load vary with respect to time, so as to consider Dynamic analysis instead of static analysis for a given FEA problem.

 Can anyone suggest me a good book for Limit Analysis (more specifically in the field of structural analysis)? I want to learn this method, so any book will be fine to study the concepts of limit analysis.

question on rotation tensors

Hi,

I am doing a self-study on continuum mechanics and have the following question on rotation tensors that I would like to get answered with your help:

 

How would one come up with the rotation tensor in 3D when the axis and the angle of rotation is given. For e.g., what would be the rotation tensor in cartesian coordinates when I would like to rotate the system about n(e_1 + e_2 + e_3) by say +60 deg.
