Hi everybody,

i tried to use the free opticist moire software for DIC. Big thanks to the developers for the work

done.

So far i did not get the results i was expecting, but i think it is due to my camera / experiment

setup. I want to get the strain field in a traditional tensile test of a coupon using a universal test machine

(instron). The coupon is painted with a black-white speckle pattern. The camera lens does not allow

Planar tension test = Pure shear test for rubber? Explanations

Submitted by Italo Persechino on

Hi,

I know what is this test and I know under certain conditions (low deformations and specimen's wide 10 times its lenght), a planar tension test is equal to pure shear test.

But I don't know why if we are doing a tension test we have pure shear.

Let me explain:

SHPB Data Reduction Software

Hello,

I am
developing the first Split-Hopkinson Pressure bar device for my university and I
was wondering if anyone had some data reduction software/codes that they would
be willing to share.  I have heard that
others have developed such codes that take the input signals and perform the
proper analyses to produce the stress strain curves.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Can you imagine a mechanical system that is stable without friction, but suffers a flutter instability when friction is 'added'?

Have you ever seen a structure subject to flutter instability?

Can flutter instability be connected to dry friction?

We provide positive answers to the above questions, watch the video at

Direct calculation of leakage flux at a synchronous generator using a finite-element method

Submitted by nikoloudg on

We simulated a 200MVA synchronous -salient pole- generator, using the 2D finite-element simulation program OPERA (by Vector Fields).

We are trying to determine some parameters of the generator such as transient, subtransient and synchronous reactances as well as time constants by applying a three phase short-circuit at the armature winding. In addition, we would like to estimate by test (if it's possible of cource) the flux leakage distribution in the machine.

Any idea about how to procced the test in order to estimate the flux leakage ?
