Mechanics of Cosserat Media

We are trying to find out the work conjugate strain (and wryness) measures to T and M (stess and couple stress) and we know that in classical theory the conjugate strain measure is identified using the stress power, which appears in the power balance equation derived taking the inner product of the equation of motion with velocity. Please refer to the attached pdf for details.

1.  Given the equations of motion of Cosserat media (Eq 1 and 2 in attached pdf) how do we extend the procedure of calculating the stress power for Cosserat media?

Hi I am working on the designing of a crash test bench to measure vehicle door intrusions ?

Could some one provide me basic ideas on the test bench set up and how to mout the door on the test rig and which degrees of freedom to lock ?.

Implementation of Corotational Formulation

Submitted by Dario Schiano … on

Hello,
I am a PhD student in Mechanical Engingeering.

I am currently studying the co-rotational formulation, following the theory on Crisfield's books. The next step in my project would be to apply the corotational formulation for the simulation of a beam, and my supervisor suggested me this could be done in ABAQUS through a User Defined Element Subroutine.

Thermal Analysis of a Coated Component

Hi,

Could anyone share some idea on how to model a Surface Coating. I am using Abaqus Standard for the thermal analysis. For the coating, i tried to create a 'Skin' on the surface and assigned a Homogenous Shell section for the Skin. Is this correct? I couldn't see much difference in the results. Or is there any better way to model a surface coating?

Thanks!!

How to read integrated properties of beam section B31OS

Submitted by Staszkinson on

Dear Abaqus useres,
In my analysis I use B31OS finite elements integrated before analysis. My profile in Abaqus/CAE is defined by I profile option.

Where can I read the integrated properties of my cross section (total area, moments of intertia, torsional properties etc.)?

Thank you for help.

Abaqus dynamic explicit contact issue

I'm trying to conduct a drop test analysis in abaqus where i have modeled a freely falling body as rigid with given mass  under gravity, the deformable body is to be analyzed as body inclines and falls on it but while viewing results it is observed that deformable body develop stress prior coming in contact with rigid, and stress is develped without contact. Please let me know how to solve this issue.

model notes:

A common general contact with penalty and normal "hard contact" behaviour in all bodies is appllied in dynamic step.

Dynamic Explicit Analysis step.

Abaqus, DFLUX subroutine, modeling

Submitted by minamir on

Hi Guys,

I've got a question regarding welding simulation. I'm modeling a plate of size 180*120*17mm and a moving heat source using Abaqus and DFLUX subroutine.
Therefore, I wrote the input file, define the properties, loads, convection and radiation, etc. I also wrote a FORTRAN code -DFLUX- for moving heat source.

Heat transfer is problematic. The heat transfers all the way to the plate surface at the the same time so basically it doesn't simulate a moving heat source. Do you have any idea what could have caused this?

Rigid Body Motion in Finite Elements (Bar/Truss)

Submitted by dvisacker on

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on a finite-element code for assemblies of bar/trusses undergoing large rigid-body motions. I have some knowledge about standard finite element coding but experience some severe trouble finding information about a rigid-body motion only finite elements (I plan to add small deformations and other features later).

I googled RFEM (Rigid-Finite Element Method) but didn't found any satisfying information.

So, I'll try to keep my questions quite general, but I can make it more precise
