Micro-scale compression testing for hydrogel microspheres between two rigid plates

I am a last year Ph.D student at University of Toronto. During my study, I developed MEMS force sensor-based micro-scale compression testing for micrometer-sized spherical biomaterials. I applied this system for mechanical properties characterization of polymeric hydrogel microsphere for drug delivery.

Help! imechanica!

This might not be a smart question to ask, but if any of you can help me, it'd be great.

 I have a DCB (sandwitch specimen) with a cohesive element in the middle. Studying pure Mode I case, displacement is applied at the end of the DCB. Cohesive element works great (it fails when one reaches max separations).  But I am having a difficulity in extracting crack length (i.e. length of failed cohesive element) vs time step. I looked for Damage and Status commend, but it's not promising.  (I'm pretty new to ABAQUS....)

We are planning to set a WEB portal to discuss

1) the example and the role of an Academy of Engineering to find the correct blend of credentials and consensus to set research needs

2) The final 14 NAE resulting "challenges", being set at international level, should be accepted worldwide. Is this really the case, are the European Agencies considering them, or do they think we need to duplicate the search for the "challenges" separately?

isotropic/anisotropic material setting in Abaqus

Hi,

 I try to model a layered laminated composite plate in Abaqus and carry out analysis using ABAQUS/Explicit. However, the explicit do not support the compoiste layup function in the ABAQUS/CAE. Therefore, I divide the plate into serveral layer and then assign an anisotropic material to each layer but there is a error message after I carried out the data check.

How to cut finite elment model from a geometry model?

Hello all! I imported an .inp file model which was converted from another .am file into Abaqus. This model (model 1) doesn’t include any geometry information but only has 3D finite element model. I want to create an air model (Cube) surrounding model 1, subtracting model 1 from air model and leave a hole whose shape is the same as model 1. Then I want to insert model 1 to the hole again and compute acoustic problem. The question is: I can’t use ‘cut/merge’ function in Abaqus because there is no geometry information in model 1. Could someone tell me how to do that? Thanks very much.

Modeling of viscolelastic material using MSC.MARC

Hi There,

sorry, I am new here, believe this is the right place to ask my question and not in blog posts.

I am trying to model thermal tempering of glass using the Narayanaswamy viscoelastic material model in MSC.MARC.

When I use shell elements (quad 4) the glass deforms due to the applied loads.

If I try to solve the same problem using solid elements (hex 8, 20) with the same material properties the glass doesn't deform anymore, and remains to be complete stiff.

3--D Modelling of Composite Laminates

HI, Friends,

 I am trying to model COmposite laminate plate for uniaxial tension,3-D model, 12 layers,symmteric and balanced laminates, and solid46 elements used.

 I wanted to know, after creating and meshing with quadratic elements, for all layers and placed face to face with other. How to connect them? Right now I am using "NUMMRG,node" but there are some problem in the results.

 Please help to use any command that weill better help and give me correct results.

 Please reply as sson as you can.
