Level set Functions

Submitted by Awais Ahmed on

Hello, Every one.

I was working with level set functions in crack propagation problem and I have noticed a strange thing.

The crack is represented as zero level set function.the normal level set functions are represented as circles in the figure and tangential level set functions are represented as squares. and if I use the condition for crack tip element as

min(xhi)*max(xhi)<0 & min(phi)*max(phi)<=   ..........Element is tip element

so according to this condition there are two elements that are designated as tip element.

The Change of Microstructure at low temperature

Recently, we do some work about the dynamic strain aging. In order to investigate the function of solute clouds and precipitates in DSA, we do some experiments. The solution treated LY12 alloys are tested on MTS at low temperature (173K), and the Portevin-Le Chatelier phenomenon disappeared as we expected. But, we need more information about the change of microstructure under the low temperature, what is more the micro-optical observation should be finished in a very short time when we consider the effect of natural aging. Obviously the TEM can not meet our needs.

Hi there,

I am a masters student and new to ABAQUS CAE. I am using version 6.7-1. I have a problem using the .inp file.

After writing the .inp file for a perticular problem how can i run the file. The ABAQUS CAE only recognizes .cae and.obd files. can someone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Deformation gradient in VUMAT of ABAQUS

Submitted by zhpeng on

Dear All,

In ABAQUS manual, it is said for hyperelastic material, it is better to define it by stretch tensor U. But if I need to use deformation gradient F in the material model directly, I need to rotate the stress back to corotational frame. How should I do that?  Should I make a polar decomposition of F=R*U first, and then apply Rt*S*R? or I can use the relative spin increment already provided to do that? If so, how?

ASME pressure vessel section VIII division 2

Hi, everyone,

I am wondering whether anybody could explain how to determine primary stress and secondary stress when FE software is used when the pressure vessel is designed using ASME section VIII vision 2.

The code has some explanation using plasticity (self-limiting). But it is very hard to use for practical use.

Thanks

Topology optimization

Submitted by Nestor Rueda Vallejo on

I'm asking the group about the current and future challenges in topology optimization either from the theoretical point of view as well as the industrial or practical point of view. I think Homogenization is the current de-facto method for practical optimization and I can detect some tendencies like level set methods, mesh less methods, etc at the research level.

What do you think about which is the "predominant" current wave and which will be next wave in topology optimization in the above two fields (theoretical and practical).
