FEM simulation of indentation process

Submitted by Jim Hatis on

There is a huge body of literature on indentation simulation using FEM and Abaqus code. Can anyone be generous to share some typical input file for 2D/3D simulation? For example indenting a bulk material, or a film on substrate. Linear elastic will be good enough. I do notice in abaqus documentation there is one example on indenting bulk material, but not for film/substrate. It will be greatly appreciated if one can address this. Many thanks.

ANSYS WB/CFX FSI problem

Submitted by Nish on

I am trying to model a tube closed at the two ends by 2 plates.  The cavity enclosed by the two plates and the tube is filled with fluid.  I fix one end and apply a force to the other end.  The tube is a very flixible material and thus all the force should be present as a pressure detected by the fluid.

When I try to do 2-way-FSI in ANSYS WB with CFX, all the force is taken up by the tube and none by the fluid.  any suggestions?

ANSYS qu from new user: writing a "for" loop for this example

Hi: I am a new ANSYS user and would really appreciate help writing a "for"-type loop to go with an example found here:

http://www.mece.ualberta.ca/tutorials/ansys/CL/CAT/BirthDeath/Print.html

At the end of the example is the paragraph below.  I want to know how to do this!  Can anyone modify the code for me?  I don't even know where to start.  I would be very grateful!

problem about total lagrangian beam element (Timoshenko type) programming

Submitted by zhang_xiaodong on

For some reason, I am writing a finite element program using the Timoshenko beam element and Total Lagrangian Formulation for geometric nonlinear analysis.

But I fail to get correct results with my program. I am suspecting the problem may be caused by the use of non-vector rotational variables.

I don't know how to insert equations, so I enclose the file with the description of the problem.

Anyone can help would be greatly appreciated.

What are the criteria for the decomposition of the total strain into elastic and plastic parts?

Submitted by Kamyar M Davoudi on

We know that total strain is the symmetric part of the displacement gradient. Total strain can be represented by the sum of the elastic and plastic (eigen) strains. Let consider a dislocation in an arbitrary solid. Suppose we computed the displacement filed, therefore the total strain can be obtained immediately. What are the criteria for the decomposition of the total strain into elastic and plastic parts?
