ABAQUS CAE-Spring orientation

hi Everybody would anyone know, after placing springs on a arc shaped model, how to make sure that my springs (in direction 1 (x) and 2(y)) are actually positioned in the LOCAL coordinate system.. I am getting wrong results, and I think it is because my springs are in GLOBAL coordinate system. How can I change spring orientation so that DOF 1 follows axial line , and DOF 2 is perpendicular to it?

thank you, and happy Friday

Mass Spring System

Submitted by Mudassir on

Hi All,

I have a question regarding mass spring system.

mẍ+kx=0 →(A) is an equation which represents mass spring system. It is a linear equation of second order. If I want to make it non-linear I make it like
mẍ+kx+k1(x^3)=0, i.e. I add another term k1(x^3). Why can’t I add k1(x^2) to (A) to make it non-linear?

writing SIGINI subroutine

Submitted by flyforever85 on

Hi all,

I have a model designed in abaqus and after an analysis I have as output a residual stress profile. Now I want to insert the same residual stress profile inside a new model made by both the same geometry and mesh elements but made by different materials. I used the *MAP SOLUTION  command but without any results. I think the best way is writing a SIGINI subroutine but since I've never done sothing like this before I don't know where to start. How can I extrapolate the residual stress profile from the former model to put in the second model?

Thanks

what is the best computer language to program finite element methods with?

hello.

I hope it is ok to ask this here. If not, please let me know which forum to use.

what do you recommned to use for programming finite element methods these days?

I am now learning FEM, and would like to start programming small programs to solve very simple problems to help me learn it better.

I'd like to be able to plot easily (I learn better by seeing plots than just numbers). A friend recommeneded I use Mathematica or Matlab.  What other options do you recommend?

This is the list I made so far:

AbaqusCAE-placing springs

Submitted by imarton on

Since springs can be placed only between elements, to place  several thousand springs on a 2D long wire shape model, I need to partition my model into thousands elements. Does anyone knows how to partition an element IN Abaqus CAE into desired number of elements, rather than dividing the elements in half and in half and in half until I get a certain number???thank you!

Partition Egde in Abaqus CAE

Is there a faster and more efficient way to partion my model in Abaqus CAE than using parameter input for edge partition? This way i can only keep splitting my element in 2, and in 2 and in 2 until I get the sufficient # of elements or until i get confused, wich ever comes first. For a long 2D wire shape models this really is an issue for me right now. If somebody can help me with this.... it would really make my day! Thanks a lot!

Abaqus - Crash test

Submitted by Eric Lim on

Hello,

I am a French student in "Prépa" et I have to imitate a crash test with Abaqus, a software which I am discrovering with this work. I begin with a very simplified model. I ceated 2 parts with Abaqus :

- the first, a simplified model of a bumper in steel (imported from SolidWork, Deformable, shell),

- the second, a plate in steel (Discrete rigid, shell, planar).

Is a good beginning ?

Looking for an equivalent indentation modulus for composite

Dear all (and Prof. Ciavarella, if you can see this),

I am looking for an equivalent indentation modulus for orthotropic composite materials in a contact problem. Does anybody has any reference or equation to get the value?
